Martin Skrtel has been charged with violent conduct by the FA for his stamp on David De Gea at Anfield yesterday.

The Slovakian defender was thrown up front for the final few minutes of yesterday’s game, with Liverpool going in desperate search of an equalizer.

Skrtel was played through by Mario Balotelli, and as he stretched for the ball, he appeared to leave his studs on Man United keeper David De Gea, who was outraged and made his feelings known to the Slovakian in no uncertain terms.

Incidentally, Skrtel’s alleged stamp on De Gea bore a striking resemblance to Steven Gerrard’s on Ander Herrera earlier in the game, for which the Liverpool captain was sent off.

Skrtel, though, can protest that he was innocently going for the ball, which is how he reacted yesterday, and to be fair for the moment the Liverpool defender can be given the benefit of the doubt.

If he accepts the charge of violent conduct, he will be slapped with a three match ban.

Doesn't really explain de Gea holding his ribs though does it in an attempt to get him sent off.

Liverpool defender Skrtel to serve three-match ban

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has failed in his bid to overturn a three-match suspension for standing on Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.

The Slovakia international appealed to an independent panel sitting in judgement on the matter on the basis his action was accidental and not intentional.

However, the panel rejected the 30-year-old centre-back's submission and ruled the charge of violent conduct proven.

Skrtel will serve an immediate suspension, meaning he misses league games at Woolwich and home to Newcastle either side of the FA Cup quarter-final replay at Sky Bet Championship side Blackburn.

apparently Liverpool have refused to comment (they cant really..all the noise they made about Costa, they cant start complaining now). Skrtl posted this on his instagram:

If I were the FA, I would now charge him with bringing the game into disrepute of something, just for shits n giggles

Surprised he didn't get an extra match ban for the appeal itself. Stay classy, Liverpool.
