is this the first time a goal and net has been put up?

In the light of all the negativity being written lately on the stadium delay and cost, this comment from the BBC comments section brought a guffaw from the peanut gallery.

Woolwich’s new ground was built on a rubbish tip. Therefore they didn’t need change of use with the council planners. As although the visual impact was about the same, the smell was considered to be slightly less. Tottenham’s new ground is on a High Street, sitting between many listed buildings. Therefore a lot of care has to be taken, hence the delay.

An interesting read.

There's the old problem that 're-development' and 'gentrification' are confused - truth is that 're-development' done right should always make the area look better, safer and more desirable......which inevitably will mean prices increase. It shouldn't be a step change from hovels to mansions, just better looking accommodation (but it will be more desirable and slightly more expensive)

The reverend quoted has also been complaining about the lack of development in the area (which Guardian omits).

More seriously the Guardian has rather selectively omitted the poll of the Love Lane residents who voted by over 80% for the redevelopment, and only quotes families moved in (after the original long term residents of Love Lane had been re-housed) to what they were told from the outset was temporary accommodation.

What I think the article maybe should have emphasised more is that pre Claire Kober the left wing Labour council (including a certain Mr Corbyn) had built NIL new housing (certainly net and probably gross) for 30 odd years. The question is whether the new Momentum led council going to do the same or is it going to actually improve the lot of the residents of the area.

And if its going to improve people's lives it means investment - which means doing deals to get investment into the area. Which if they want to tear up the Lendlease deal (which seems to be the way they are going) will cost them a lot of money but they will need to find a developer to replace them as they certainly do not have the skills in house to tackle the scale of redevelopment required.

Equally will the (new) council backtrack on the building of flats on Spurs south podium (previously given outline planning permission) by refusing to agree any form of final planning permission - which seems to be similar to Spurs 'Goods Yard' development which meets Haringey's published plans for the area (made after public consultation).

Sadly I can see Haringey doing nothing for preference again, leaving the area as a continuing 'shit hole' - but being taken to court frequently for failing to adhere to previous agreements and its failure to look after its residents needs - will London Mayor Sadiq Khan have to declare it a council in need of 'special measures' ?.

A few pics off Mr Kramer's twitter feed.

No doubt a few will declare the sight of cardboard boxes and a trailing cleaner's cable proof that these parts are not finished !

But don't they look great

So excited about this. Every aspect of it looks classy. It still seems like a dream. As much as I loved WHL, this looks like such an incredible upgrade.

Levy is far from perfect, and even with the stadium he wanted to move the club to Stratford, but with this new stadium it’s clear that no expense has been spared. For all his haggling and brinkmanship, Levy (and ENIC in general) have delivered a stunning new home that we can all be proud of.

Can’t wait to see it full of yids roaring on the team.
