He so wants us.

Here's what they say in Italy.

ATALANTA, MALINOVSKYI'S WIFE: "AWAY FROM BERGAMO? IT DOES NOT DEPEND ON US" The rumors about the imminent departure of Ruslan Malinovskyi from Atalanta seem to be confirmed by his wife. Roksana, through a story from his Instagram profile, responded to the many messages of the fans who invited the couple and their daughter Olivia not to leave the team and the city: "Bergamo is our home, but the life of football is too difficult", we read. she. The rumors want the Ukrainian attacking midfielder at Nottingham Forest: "Your messages break my heart, this is unexpected for us as for you - continued Roksana -. But nothing has been decided and it does not depend on us. You are worried and I do not want to. This. You have to know one thing: I never leave you. But football life is too difficult, you never know what to expect. "

Atalanta, Gasperini: "Malinovskyi strong, but we need a player like Ilicic. Milan model to follow". The Nerazzurri coach on the eve of the big match against the Rossoneri: "We need a more suitable player than Ruslan in that role. Pioli has been able to bet on young talents."

22/08/2022Moral of the story: Atalanta- Milan 1-1, who scored in your opinion?
You can understand why Mrs Malinovskyi is so distraught, can't you? She's been told he might be going to Nottingham Forest ffs.

I checked a bit more. I've cut and pasted from Wikipedia

Homegrown Player Rule (UEFA)

The Homegrown Player Rule is a rule for UEFA competitions that was first introduced in 2006–07 season and fully enforced beginning in the 2008–09 season. On top of a maximum 25 players for List A, clubs had to designate a minimum 8 players that were trained by clubs from the same national league, with 4 of them being from the club's own youth system. The rule in turn capped a maximum of 17 foreigners for the club in UEFA competitions.

Homegrown Player Rule (England)

Currently, to be classified as homegrown one must be on an English team for at least three years before the age of twenty-one which Dyke wanted to reduce to eighteen. This would mean that a teenager would have to start at the club by the age of fifteen at the latest and, since players are not allowed to move across national boundaries before sixteen (except under exceptional circumstances), this would mean fewer foreign players could qualify as homegrown.

Doherty was 18 when he joined Wolves from Bohemians.

Doherty is 100% homegrown in the Premier League.

If, as seems likely Ndombele and Reggie leave we still have 18 non HG players as defined by UEFA. But under EPL rules we only have 14.
Because both are classed as U21 for the EPL we could keep Gil and Sarr for EPL games but not register them for UCL games meaning we have 16 non HG and could sign another non HG available for both EPL and UCL games.
We could sign another 2 if one of Royal and Sanchez is sold or loaned.

He seems a good player but we don’t have room in our squad for more foreign players as things stand.

You can register 17 foreign players...

Lloris, Hojbjerg, Sanchez, Son, Richarlison, Gil, Perisic, Royal, Romero, Kulusevski, Lucas, Sarr, Bentancur, Lenglet and Bissouma makes 15... unless I am missing someone?

Yes, we still have Ndombele and Reguilon in the squad still, but we don't have to register them and I assume both will leave. Ndombele seems close to Napoli and I refuse to believe there's a team out there that Reguilon wouldn't improve. Not to mention we could still send Sarr and/or Gil out on loan if we end up getting Malinovskyi for midfield.
