He is very strangely underrated by our fans. He is quality, was he playing in an orthodox fullback system without having to play 'rush fullback' he'd be even better.

Why would he?

He has a very unique skill set and physical profile that makes him perfect to be box to box FB. He's not whipped in a cross in his life.

Making him a regular FB would take away from what makes him special and ask him to stick to doing things that aren't his strengths.

Why would he...? Lol Because its even easier than what he is being asked to do. Its less physically demanding .As for whipping in crosses that does not automatically come with being an orthodox fullback. It depends entirely how your manager sets up the side.

I watched him in serie A last year and argued he was ready to start this season against posters who claimed he'd be out on loan or on the bench. He was being brought into play for Conte where picking out a cross were part of the remit of what his wingback did. I think it would have been even simpler for him. And it's also funny how people over rate the efficacy of swinging crosses in to the box is anyway. It's statistically deeply inefficient very 90's preoccupation with the cross amongst fans.
