I think you're right about the fitness, he just doesn't look mobile and one thing he always had was a good engine. He's also dwelling on the ball too long, or cannot get it under control soon enough. Just a bad day at the office from him today. I'd still play him next week though, he might just be the one to get us through.

When he first me to us, and he played in the deeper role for his first few games, I thought he looked sharp, quick, and tenacious. Then he moved forward and started banging in goals and creating for his teammates. Ring that up for two years and he was the darling of England football.

Now we see an injured player filling voids in the team and not playing in his best position. To think he has fallen off is reactionary.

He hasn't been sharp, but he is not shit.
bookmarked this. Not digging you out CS but it was genuinely the first post that popped up as a new post in this thread for me. Serendipity some would say.

So in return bookmark this post: In 2 years he will be where Trippier is in regards to the supporters. He is living on good will because of previous late goals so folks forget about his work in open play. I don't. He's always been shit in open play but benefited from having a free role and having a MF that dominated and recaptured possession like it was going out of style. Now when he's asked to be an actual footballer he is failing miserably.

If Poch wants a small squad with flexible players then how does Dele fit in that? A nominal MF that can't play anywhere in the MF? A MF should be a) your best footballers and b) able to play anywhere on the field without much dropoff from a specialist. Most of that comes from the fact that MF should be technically solid which Dele, whose technical level is on par with that of schoolboy, cannot do. Can you imagine him being asked to play LB (or RB considering footedness) like Bentaleb was? It would be carnage.

Do you watch his touches? His 'control'? His reading of a bouncing or moving ball?

He clearly needs a decent summer break, not even performing at 30 percent of his abilities at the moment.
Showing your generous soul as usual. Knew I liked you.

I feel we are seeing the same Dele I have always seen. It's just that his 'artistry' is happening deeper for all to witness and with far greater risk.

I ask 1 question to people that don't think he is a bad footballer in the main: has he improved 1 thing in the 4 seasons he's been here? Is there 1 new twist to his game or added skill or better awareness or discipline, anything. Is there 1 things that has improved? Don't pull from collective nether regions folks just answer that 1 question genuinely. And the answer should be something that a reasonable person should be able to see/recognize. the answer will no.

He is not the only person to not improve 1 iota in Poch's time and anyone that hasn't should be gone because theey all had room to improve. Kane has added somehting to his game every year. People like Dier and Dele have not. There are decisions to be made.
