But it is like you've suddenly decided you hate Tottenham, now they don't play against Millwall they have decided that. There was absolutely no rivalry between the two clubs since I've been growing up supporting Spurs (45yrs). Only in the last decade, it gets spoken about and it's all West Ham.
Seriously ask any one of them to detail the history of this rivalry, they can't go back further than Lasagne gate. NOTHING preseeds it, not one single standout moment in history dictates a rivalry, that's 13yrs!!! It's the same rivalry as Palace, QPR (in fact I'd argue because of the Cup final we have a more meaningful rivalry, certainly an older one), Charlton and Fulham. How old is this fella, mid 20's? If so he would have been approx 10-13yrs old when lasange-gate was played, let that sink in!!! It's all he's known, he's not experienced them playing Millwall. That's the birth of their rivalry. THAT ISN'T WHAT A RIVALRY IS.
Love the twist of narrative too, saying since we've been top four we say it's a cup final, WHAT. A. CUNT! No mate, there has been no change in that sentiment.
I'll always acknowledge that for some there is a rivalry off the field from the late '70s, this can't be ignored and in my opinion, is where it stems from, that and where there is territory are blurred like along the A11/M11 & A12 corridors out of London. But let's be honest this is a minority and off-field rivalry was equally had with other firms too. But, to have a rivalry there first and foremost has to be a footballing one, something has to have physically happened between the clubs both on and off the pitch.
We have more of a rivalry with Man City than we do with this mob with key games played at cup finals, relegation battles, CL qualification battles over the decades etc....
