I'm torn on this, while it's a terrible tragedy and sympathy and respect should be shown to those that lost their lives and to grieving families, i feel we go overboard when tragedies occur. The painting of the owner as some latter day Mother Theresa figure irks a bit.
The financial shennanigans when in the Championship.
The juicing up rumours in their title winning season.
The sacking of the man that delivered the dream the following season.
There was a ruthless streak behind the supposed philanthropy. If this tragedy hadn't occured and i sincerely wish it hadn't then i would have still held LCFC in utter contempt. Am i now supposed to forget all that, feel ashamed and just look through some rose tinted spectacles.
Sorry if this offends anyone but it's the way i feel.
And Mother Theresa was a sadistic cunt who liked to see people in agony.

It’s a weird one for me, this great outpouring of virtual sympathies.

On a personal level I couldn’t give a monkeys about this and don’t understand why people who have no connection to the owner are in such a state.

But then supporting a football club makes no sense, I went to White Hart Lane when Sir Bill passed away, signed the book of condolences.

I’m just a huge contradiction I suppose.

Football is emotion, it's a religion for many, a pastime for others. I understand why Leicester fans would commemorate this guy as since owning the club he's got them promoted and then won the PL, that's a big deal. I don't understand the level of the morning though, the floral tributes outside the ground is surprising as is the coverage, each fueling the other no doubt.

The one thing that has got my goat, is that in all the press coverage not a single one mentioned that he's a fucking cheat. That he got Leicester into the PL on the back of breaking FFP, the setting up of fake companies and dodgy deals. His death, though utterly tragic, has now officially cemented their 'fairytale" that never was.

But public morning nowadays seems to be a 'thing'. I can't stand what it feels like almost every match some death is marked with a minutes silence or applause, on 'x' minute lets all clap for Jonny or Susan because they were Spurs fans. Not to mention poppy time, this now gets dragged out for at least two weeks, with some people getting all leary if you don't display a poppy as a fucking crime or something.

rant over.

Edit: Oh! no doubt every win will be met with "doing it for him" and a loss will be met with "difficult without him". Vardy will verbally abuse another "chink" in a casino which will be put down to him being in a depression brought on by grief. Meanwhile, the academy's trip to Thailand ends up serialized on PornHub, for which they apologise for and put it down to their deep affection for Thia girls, but refute all claims that the girls were underage.

The media aren’t going to highlight negative stuff. Why would they? It was a high profile tragedy, and comes with all the hyperbole that high profile tragedies bring.

As for the rest of your post, I admit that public mourning has almost been watered down by the sheer frequency. Ultimately it’s a minute out of your day to provide grieving people a little happiness, so if a family requests acknowledgement for a sadly passed Spurs fan, I see no issue with it.

I’ve already said elsewhere how I feel about poppies. I’d love some indignant fuck to challenge me for not wearing one.

Daniel Levy dies in helicopter crash. Absolutely no one would give a shit. Certainly not our mollycoddled fans. It would be a footnote under ‘Dear Deidre’ amid questions about penis insecurity. For my part I’ve never given a fuck when strangers die in private plane crashes.

When looking at the accident I am left questioning how it was ever possible for a helicopter to be flown in and around such a populated area. Surely whoever approved the necessary permit needs to be questioned about the risk involved ?

That aside I can’t express too much else.
