Looking at our starting XI (and back-ups) I'm not sure if we're targeting the biggest drop-off areas in the squad:

------------------------------------------Vic (Forster)-----------------------------------------

Porro (Royal)--------Romero(Sanchez)-----------VDV(??)-------------------Udogie(Davies)

---------------------------------------------Biss(Sarr/Bentancur)------------------------------------------

------------------Sarr(Bentancur/Biss)---------------------------Maddison(GLC)----------------

----Kulu(Porro)------------------------------------------------------------Son (Solo/Perisic/Gil)---------

-----------------------------------------Richy (Son)----------------------------------------------

Knowing you can never solve all your problems in one window, it's clear as day we should have targeted:

1. A CB that can play either side - David Hancko from Feyenoord
2. A left-back - Rico Henry from Brentford
3. A striker - Kyogo from Celtic or Gift Orban

None of these players would have broken the bank.

I feel like the players we are targeting still fails to address the balance in the squad.

The further away we get from it the clearer it becomes that we would've been better off not spending any money that summer. Not a single signing achieved anything

£138.5m trf fees +
Ndombele - Wages til 6/25 = 62.4m
GLC - Wages til 6/25 = 21.8m
Sess - Wages til 6/25 = 16.5m
Clarke - Wages til 6/22 - 4.8m

= £244.1m (Less wage contributions whilst on loan)

..........For practically fuck all!

what about lloyd kelly
nick jonas fml GIF

I 100% agree with you. The primary responsibility of a CB used to be how good you are at defending and if they had to fill in at RCB/LCB was never an issue.

Clement Lenglet re-wrote the rulebook......... Doesn't matter if oppo players waltz the through you like a scooby-doo ghost; you just need to able to ping a hollywood pass every few games and you're golden.

You've left off Veliz, Phillips, White, Sessegnon, and Skipp! .

For good reason!

Veliz - One for the future
Phillips - One for the future

People said that about Udogie, VDV & Sarr too.

White - Not good enough
Sess - Not good enough
Skipp - Not good enough

Porbably for the gaffa to decide.... Particularly in the case of Skipp; bearing in mind he's already played in 3/4 games this season; inc. 2 x 70+ min appearances.

To be fair to Skipp he's a bit of a level above 'not good enough' that Sess and especially White are. Imo, he almost has to stay at the club simply for squad reasons.

The thing with Skipp is that, for European competition, we must have 4 'club trained players': Champions League group stage squads, player registration deadlines: all you need to know | UEFA Champions League

"players who were on a club's books for three years between the ages of 15 and 21"

What this means is you can use 17 non-HG, 4 HG, and 4 'club trained'.

Since we've sold Tanganga, and obviously Harry Kane, we have 0 club trained first-team players outside of Skipp. Sure, we can use a youth keeper, and perhaps Scarlett/Dorrington/Donley etc will eventually qualify, but we NEED Skipp to stay at the club or else we will only be able to register a 21/22 person squad for UEFA competitions.
