The balance of successful transfers definitely tilts towards lesser known players. Frankly until Romero, the price we paid was inversely correlated with the level of success the player had here. Not sure exactly how many footballers are ‘household’ names. Especially those footballers outside of the EPL. Surely, it depends on the household too.
By household names, do you mean EPL-tested or internationally capped
Sadio Mané and Riyadh Mahrez certainly weren’t household names when brought to the EPL but worked out pretty well to name but two. I’ll take top class scouting and recruiting over paying a massive premium for a household name like Harry Maguire.
Sanchez cost more than the entire back line of the two belgians, rose, walker.
