Everyone knows about Spurs in the last few years: the £1billion new stadium, a net debt of almost £600m, no signings for the last two windows, a playing squad looking increasingly stale, even though they performed miracles to reach the Champions League final. Through all of this there has been a worry among some fans that the costs of the stadium were so much, that they were would constrain Pochettino so far, that there would never be enough money to refresh to the team. And Pochettino’s barely-coded warnings that Spurs would have to be brave and take risks or else things might fall apart spoke to those fears too.
Well, most of those fears have been washed away by today’s events. Daniel Levy always knew that Pochettino had to be backed this summer, that they could not afford another year of stasis, and that they would have to bring players in. He knew that they would have to spend the money to keep the whole enterprise afloat. He did not meet Lyon’s initial asking price for Ndombele of more than £70m, but he spent more than he has ever done on a player before.
And this does not mean it will be start of a spree, and Spurs will still have to keep their belts tight. They will still need to sell players in order to keep buying, and the futures of Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld and Kieran Trippier are key to all of that. Do not expect Spurs to be well into the red for the summer by the time the window shuts.
But there is an even more important point here than simply one player coming through the door. Because they were always going to sign someone this summer. In fact, they signed Jack Clarke from Leeds United earlier on Tuesday.

Sorry to only quote a tiny section of a good post, just wanted to share this. Our league positions over the last 27 years.
You cant expect a continuous upward trend, it's just not realistic.
I'm pretty fucking happy with how that looks over the last 10 years.
Now we are right on cue for another pump in the bullish market.
As for points won
Going down to 71 from 86 was certainly quite a dump, but we still posted a higher low and met our 70 ish point resistance level which I'm a lot more comfortable with than if we had hit the mid 60s.
Now for games won over the same period;
I'm a bit fed up of people focusing on 'games lost' last season rather than games won. Draws feel like losses unless it's against City when at our level. Again I'm pretty ok with how this is looking. It's only 3 less than our 86 point season. That kind of difference can easily be made up by having a good December or end of season (which we failed to do this year, partly I think due to the lack of driving competition around us).
Now to my biggest concern as the above items I'm pretty comfortable with.
Goals scored;
Now it could be argued we met resistance around the mid 60s which is a positive as we spent 9 years struggling to maintain a mid 60s goals scored record. Now rather than jumping up to a mid 60s, we are dropping down to it - quite heavily. 86 goals was punching above our weight, but although I dont have the numbers to hand - from memory I believe we scored a fuck ton of goals in the last 5 or so games of that season which doesn't necessarily give a fair overall reflection of our goal scoring power throughout the season.
Having Kane, Son and Dele almost certainly playing more minutes next season I expect another sharp incline here.
It just doesn't sit well with me that last season we scored pretty much as many goals as we did 3, 6, 7, 9, and 11 years ago. I feel that our league position actually flatters us slightly when taking this into account.
