Unfortunately its common in football. So common that it largely goes unnoticed.

The only examples I can think of are Alonso and Rooney but I am sure there are hundreds.

I can almost understand it when you're talking about someone not very wealthy living in the middle of nowhere, with no real means to socialise other than the pub, driving back after a couple of pints. When you're talking about a multi-millionaire in London who could hire a Uber or a fucking private chauffeur without even denting his bank account? It beggars belief, puts people at risk for zero good reason, and sends out an awful message. I don't care how lightly Liverpool take it, we're meant to be better than that lot. He should lose the captaincy and Vorm should be playing against United.
