Hey Ahab... I’m going near Solihull tomorrow on my way up to Torpichen. Do you wanna hang out and do a speedball or something? You get the beers in and I’ll bring the drugs. What do you say?Japhet Tanganga is picked for the new England U19 squad. Our sole representative.
And Luis Binks of Spurs makes the U17 squad. (Luis who?)

Wise words Ahab. You seem to have a formula for life and you stick to it. I admire that. What do I say? Don't do drugs and drink alcohol in moderation.
Can almost certainly see Skipp in our first team squad within the next year or so. By that, I mean appearances on the bench.
and only just 17 tooSo glad that was put together. All the attention is on Edwards but Skipp is the best player in this team. It's also worth notting that he's only 17!!!
Skipp reminds me a lot of Harry Winks. He's stronger and quicker than Winks though. So glad that was put together. All the attention is on Edwards but Skipp is the best player in this team. It's also worth notting that he's only 17!!!
George Marsh is another I like, but Skipp currently showing a bit more flair on the ball, I like a kid that tries to pass with the outside of his foot whilst being closed down.Skipp reminds me a lot of Harry Winks. He's stronger and quicker than Winks though.
Come on a lot since last season. He'll be a man amongst boys in the England U18 team.
I was too quick to write off TOB. I can see why he's highly rated now. But I'm going to write off Marsh though.George Marsh is another I like, but Skipp currently showing a bit more flair on the ball, I like a kid that tries to pass with the outside of his foot whilst being closed down.
Marsh will be a pro-football of that I've no doubt, with us who knows but he's a smart heads up player, strong in the tackle, good leader and has the ability to not panic on the ball when being pressed, picks good passes with good decision making (good at choosing whether to play a penetrative pass or lay it off to build and keep possession). Just as Winks now Skipp has shown he has the same ability to set the tempo of the team both with and without the ball (without the ball I think is one of his strengths).I was too quick to write off TOB. I've seen a lot of him in action and he's just too small and no pace either. Why is he played at center back sometimes? There's no future in that.
I have watched a few games at the training ground. Guido was going there long before me I think.
Ok, what do you think his best position is? Do you think he could be a full back?Marsh will be a pro-football of that I've no doubt, with us who knows but he's a smart heads up player, strong in the tackle, good leader and has the ability to not panic on the ball when being pressed, picks good passes with good decision making (good at choosing whether to play a penetrative pass or lay it off to build and keep possession). I wouldn't read too much into changing positions, it's what McDermott insists on all of our players to be able to do during their development, every game there is at least two players playing out of what is their perceived position and as for physical capabilities again Mcdermott docent select players on this.
Here are a couple of McDermott's approaches on our philosophy (picked up from a Coach the coach course he was running):
McDermott does not believe that there is such a thing as a profile of players because they were different in height , weight, body shape and speed. In order to be a good player it was necessary to learn how you fit in and be able to play off other players in the team.
Reverting to his theme of "adapt or fail" John pointed out that coaches should not worry about early specialisation of young players but instead coaches needed to look at individual players in different positions and then make allowances for the mistakes that they will inevitably make. It was important to work on sessions for individuals but also the coach must see where this links in. One method of working is to work with different themes on different days whilst ensuring there is always a physical component with the under 18’s.
Get down to the training ground mate (if you can), games are free. Highly recommend doing it, especially in a world when the first team live in rarified oxygen bubble, nothing will connect you and make you feel more attached to the club than watching the youth teams play. Culminating in a feeling of pride when they make the first team.
