I’d hate to think we were only in it because of Woolwich progressing.
That is “a favour” I’d rather not be reminded of.
Their comfort in a hurtful defeat is that they’ve wrecked 5th place for us.
We will wreck that comfort by coming 4th.
Villa to progress tonight and have an eye on a trophy.
We just need to see to our business and not have any more abomination games. If we mess it up, we don’t deserve CL football. If we mess up 5th, we don’t deserve Europa.
It’s simple.

Honestly fucks me off that we haven't been past the QF for near 30 years, how the fek can teams like West Ham get further than us in this comp in recent history, criminal.
 
I'm quite zen about what competition we end up playing in next season.

It does make me laugh though that people want Europa so we can 'have a realistic chance' of winning it.

When have we looked like winning the Europa or Conference? All match threads are torn between playing the backups (who then struggle against 'farmers' with their managers in jail) or going too strong and messing up our Sunday Prem games.

We've got closer to winning the Champions League than we have the Europa or Conference League.

I suspect it'll be massively different with Ange but then again...Fulham...league cup...
 
So it is going exactly how I predicted last year.

Anyway, maybe now fifth is gone (possible definitely by this time tomorrow) it will get the players to pull their fingers out and focus on getting fourth. We can do it, but how much do we want to do it.

It wont be. It isnt in the club's DNA nowadays. I'd happily win the Europa League and finish tenth but that wouldnt go down well with a large proportion of the fanbase.
 
I'll be happy for 4th or 5th.
The 5th place coefficient would have been on the back of cheats (chitty & Chavs) anyway. Fuck em both.

It’s true.

To be in with a good chance of winning the Europa, we’ve got to take the competition seriously and treat it with respect.

For too long we’ve had this superior attitude that we’re better than most teams in it, so we should be going all the way. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that. Zagreb and Antwerp are still fresh in my memory.

I’d be okay with us being in the Europa League next season, but only if the team are going to give it a good go

It is so utterly bizarre.

We will have to play our best XI in it to progress just like the CL so those who think we will blood the youngsters have a shock coming.

We wont though , we will obvioulsy do what we can but not to the detriment of Top 4 - I dont mean it as a sly dig at Levy , its just the way football is now - the money from the CL dwarfs any kind of Trophy money - of course if you win the EL you get CL but in a final anything can happen

You know the answer to that! Everyone does.
There's more money 💰 involved in finishing 4th than progressing in Europe's second tier competition.
And this club chases money, not glory.
If we somehow made it the very late stages we'd probably only then start prioritising it if top 4 was seen as a less likely achievement.

Wouldn’t that ^ be better than finishing 2nd ? You get Champions League by winning the Europa. Mind you Mr Levy might prefer the higher prize money from 2nd to glory.
