Losing a seat on the IFAB isn't something I'd considered, but citing the England teams (at all levels) not being able to play in their respective championships is neither here nor there as, refusing to play ball will result in not being able to play ball, obviously.

The real issue here is the cost to the FA...specifically for Wembley. It's all well being part of the big money that is football and our FA are as guilty as anyone who have benefited from being at the top of the pyramid, but the greed of others has shown just how dirty it all is and yeah, the FA, though they may only be ankle deep in the filth that Blatter swims in, will still leave their own dirty marks if they try to step out.

How much credibility can Fifa maintain? They say the English FA is shit stirring for suggesting corruption, yet here we have the FBI investigating the very same issue. We have dear Mr. Blatter clinging onto power still, despite votes of no confidence in his abilities.

How long can this go on before the while regulatory structure finds itself in crisis?

FBI is the key, Sepp Bullshit can ignore the FA and just say it's an english conspiracy, soon as the FBI presses charges Fifa is fucked when you have the weight of the US government. Should also give the push to UEFA to abandon FIFA as well, come on yanks get this moving.

So Smoked Salmon Smoked Salmon there's been a "will they be qatar world cup" thread since March 2013 that has consistently posted on why the qatar bid was an incredible poor decision that will get close to breaking up the international football architecture. Now you start your own qatar corruption thread.

Funny how originally you posted there was nothing wrong with this decision and opposition was anti Arab sentiment. Have you changed your mind?

Is that why you started a fresh thread

Smoked Salmon Smoked Salmon
My point is that it is a matter of perspective. I fear that where the Middle East is concerned the assumption is that it is a cesspit of evil, perpetuated by Arabs and/or Muslims.

But human rights is not a simple issue. You cite homosexuality, but have you actually checked the statistics of how many people were prosecuted for it in Qatar in recent years? I think you'll find the numbers are actully quite small.

What would consider to be the highest form of human rights abuse? Personally I would say the death penalty. Do you know which country is the fifth highest for executions in the world? The United States. Much higher than most Arab countries (with the exception of Saudi and Yemen), including much higher than Qatar, which last executed someone in 2003 (meaning that since those evil Qataris last put someone to death the Americans have executed around 500 people). Were you against holding the World Cup in America? The United States also practices torture (self acknowledged) and denies basic judicial rights to prisoners of war, instead putting them before military kangaroo courts. It happily carries out drone attacks againts towns and villages within the borders of it's allies in the name of the fight against terrorism. The US has institutional racism, significant religious fundementalism and, talking of homosexuality, can't even enact federal law to preserve the right to gay marriage. However, where is the faux outrage for any of this? People are still quite happy to by McDonald's burgers, have their summer holidays in Florida and pop the latest Hollywood blockbuster into their DVD machines.

How about Brazil? Riddled with torture, corruption, extra judicial killings and various other human rights abuses. Gonna turn off the TV in 2014 and 2016?

People need to check out the statistics and facts for themselves before getting all high and mighty. We live in a culture of huge double standards and hypocrisy. If you want to make a stand against human rights abuses then consistency is the key and there are a great many places you should be outrages about in greater or equal measure to Qatar.

The reality is that the WC in Qatar will play out like most others, with the Qataris on their best behaviour to present a good image to the rest of the world. So, either be consistent in boycotting serious human rights abuses across the board, or just accept that Qatar has it and enjoy the football.
Year and half latter you start a qatar corruption thread..Decision always stank and your lawerwly weasel wank is shown to be what is. Fuck of Smoked Salmon Smoked Salmon you have no authority here.

It's going to Qatar and Russia simply because of £€$.
Qatar has but billions into football with no other reason that to legitimise their image. It's not to make money.
Putin used his leverage with the oligarchs to make sure Russia got their bid. Roman, probably the most 'not fit for purpose' owner in the EPL will be investing large amounts of his ill gotten blood money in infrastructure and stadia as will other Oligarchs.
It's all a money making exercise. It's nothing about bringing football to the world. It's about who pays the most, the chance to make some dough.
Their original bid was to play in the summer which was not possible. Yet they won and now FIFA is prepared to do the unthinkable and move it to Winter?
Qatar hosting the WC will do nothing for their sport which as had pro football since 1963. The 12 clubs in it's 'premier league' average about 5 -6,000 a game. They have a 2nd league with 18 clubs. Football has never really been that popular.
They also view foreign players as guests who have to leave when their contract expires for fear of making Qatar their permanent home. Reason: They are afraid that any foreign majority that has a stake in the country and could adopt it as their homeland would threaten the integrity of their culture and the control of their society.
Many clubs are owned by state institutions, the military and the ruling family. So is that changing?
Sheikh Qaradawi (granted asylum in 61) is also very prominent religious leader in Qatar, a radical and staunch supporter the Muslim Brotherhood who's motto is "God is our objective; the Qur'an is the Constitution; the Prophet is our leader; jihad is our way; death for the sake of God is our wish." Qatar have this man preaching to their masses whilst distancing himself from his views.
They are considered a terrorist organisation by the other Gulf states Bahrain, UAE and Saudi's also Russia & Syria. They were also suspected here for extremist activities in 2014, but moved HQ from London to Austria to avoid investigation
Qatar funds Islamic terrorism, allows safe passage for terrorists and harbours radicals and exiles, yet the Government that does all this says a completely different thing.
MB's aim: ' to reclaim Islam's manifest destiny, an empire, stretching from Spain to Indonesia'
FFS is this the middle ages?

Forget their human rights abuses, yes they do that. However, the irony is that we have awarded the World Cup to a country that funds those radical Islamic extremists - who have bombed the US and Europe - that are willing to kill and maim in the name of Islam to reach their goal: Islamic Empire.

How anyone is going to enjoy a drink over there is another problem. Probably only in the hotel or certain restaurants. You need a permit to buy it, it's illegal to transport it from one place to another -except when taking it home from buying at designated place (with permit), cannot drink alcohol or be intoxicated in a public place - can be deported, fined or imprisoned. It is illegal to offer Alcohol to a Muslim or give your Alcohol to another person.
Are they going to allow supporters from the west to consume alcohol in public places, at stadiums and let them carry it around with them? What about the woman supporters. Foreign women are expected to wear knee length dresses, skirts and pants and all tops/shirts must cover their mid drift and shoulders.
Even the moderate locals have started complaining about the way foreign women dress in the malls in Qatar who are concerned that a steady influx of foreigners is threatening to uproot their customs and traditions. Handing out flyers that read: "Leggings are not pants" and "If you are in Qatar, you are one of us."
Sort of makes a mockery of the complaints of Muslim women in Burkha's who are asked to conform with our rules & laws whilst living in our country.
Can you imagine the uproar if a group that thought that a steady influx of foreigners were threatening to uproot their customs and traditions & handed out leaflets in Southall with 'Burkha's are not dresses" "if you are in the UK you are one of us".
To me it all seems like a kind of Facism.

Basically it's a capital offence to convert from Islam in Qatar and an offence ( up to 10 years) for any other religion to try to convert a Muslim. Other religions are allowed to hold services without authorisation but are told by the Govt not to advertise in advance or use visible religious symbols, i.e., crosses.

Well no bikini tops in the stadiums at that world cup. Sheer clothing not tolerated. Luckily, Ramadan doesn't fall between June and July in 2022.

To me it's just as bad as the Nazi's getting the Olympics.
