The two players you mentioned joined without CL football. We're not in the competition because of a freak occurrence, not because we weren't good enough to finish in the spots.

A player like Cisse at Newcastle is clearly very good, but joined a club without the CL, who looked unlikely to even get in this year. As with Ben Arfa, as with Cabaye. Talent exists outwith the Champions League

Funny that Newcastle picked up Cabaye from the French champions and the bundesliga top scorer at the time and they weren't even in europe.
