TWINNING TOTTS

Tottenham make history by naming identical twins in first-team squad for Europa Conference League clash against Pacos

TOTTENHAM named identical twins Michael and Mathew Craig in their squad for their Europa League clash against Pacos de Ferreira.

The North Londoners have made history by naming the two 18-year-olds on the bench for the match in Portugal.

Spurs face Pacos in the Europa Conference League play-off first-leg.

They have named a weakened team with Harry Kane left in England, and the twins feature on a very youthful subs bench.

The brothers were born just two minutes apart at Barnet hospital in North London on April 16, 2003.

And are the first identical twins to be named on a Spurs teamsheet in the club's history.

Both lads have impressed in Spurs' academy in recent years and Nuno Espirito Santo has been impressed since he took charge.

The lookalikes signed their first professional contracts at Tottenham towards the end of last season.

They stepped up to the development squad earlier this year having played with the Under-18s last season.

Both play in centre-midfield with Matthew - the youngest - also able to slot in at centre-back.

Matthew entered the Spurs academy at Under-12 level while Michael played for their bitter rivals Woolwich at the same age.

The pair were both at Watford beforehand but became team-mates at Under-13 level when the pair were both signed by the Lilywhites.

Both boys have represented Scotland at youth level but could still play for England's senior team in the future.

Speaking about being an identical twin, Matthew previously said: "I quite enjoy it.

“I’m lucky because I get on with my brother really well so you always have someone to speak to if you need to.

"And if you want to go out and do something you’ve always got someone to do it with. If he doesn’t want to do something I’ll pester him into it."

And Michael explained: "I think we’re lucky.

"Everyone has players who they have a natural chemistry with and when you spend a lot of your lives together, you just end up knowing what the other person wants from you on and off the pitch.

"That gives you a deeper understanding of how you can work with them to try to dominate games with the team.”

No Lavinier or Lyons-Foster - latter I think must be injured as he was starting as Captain in early games but not seen last game either.

Surprised Paskotsi is not starting after doing very well in pre-season, and as an Estonian full international.
That's most probably why he wasn't starting (because he got picked for the Estonian squad for upcoming internationals)
