Southampton no doubt have a new batch of kids to push through.

Add that to say spending 40-50mil and they will be fine and minted at the same time.

that's one way it could go but they are taking a big risk selling alot of their best players

Koeman will have his work cut out for him in his first season and it could very well go pear shaped if all aren't pulling in the same direction. There fans must be fucking gutted. Will be very interesting to watch though from a neutral perspective.

Have you guys seen the Saints departure messages for their (former) players?

Chambers': Calum made it clear to us that he did not see his future at Southampton. As such, it was crucial that we were able to negotiate a substantial fee that also reflects the work our staff have put into Calum’s development since he joined the club at the age of eight."

Lovern's : "The defender, who joined Saints last summer on a four-year contract, departs for a significant fee after negotiations with the Anfield club."

Lallana's: "The fee received from Liverpool, although undisclosed, will allow the club to further develop the first-team squad for the 2014/2015 season. "

must admit, I wouldn't like to be a Saints' fan at the moment, even the most optimistic must be wondering if they will have 11 players available for selection by the time the season starts.

Yes Mrs P. They've got 6 players left, and we seem to have 35. Something's got to give. That tea lady looked well likely, we always seem to miss out. :pochsulk:

If they compound the misery by selling Schneiderlin and Rodriguez then surely they're going down, right?

They're facing the practical fact of having to replace their entire outfield starting lineup. Even if they splash the cash before deadline then how many of those transfer are going to work, on average?

Say what you will about the promoted teams, and the endless fail-train that is QPR and their massive wages, but at least with those teams there is going to be a nucleus of players that have actually played together.

And what professional is going to look at them right now as an attractive move? Say what you will about them getting inflated fees for average or above average players, but at this rate are they reasonably going to be able to move for superior options that won't laugh in their face?

There is no way Southampton are going down under Koeman. They have a classy academy, and a fuck load of money. They will be fine.

I'm hardly an expert regarding his quality as a manager, but it looks like he's got a history of one-year managerial stints, the Premier League is a big step up from the Eredevisie, and he can't reasonably expect to field a starting 11 of academy players.

Unless they go the QPR route and offer massively inflated wages then I could see their targets looking at them like kryptonite.

Just saying, it seems to be regularly the case that one of the relegated trio is a team that nobody saw collapsing in such an epic fashion.

You might well be right. Their transfer policy does, on the surface, look like suicide. But they would have to be really bad to go down this year with the lack of quality from the other teams coming up

Realistically there are probably 7-8 teams for which A: they simply lack quality, or B: the wheels could simply come off.

This just seems shocking so soon before the start of the season.

In fairness, they have gotten incredible value for every player they've sold. It seems unlikely they'll be able convince quality players to come to the club but they've gotten huge numbers on every player they've sold. 30 for Shaw, 25 for Lallana, 20 for Lovren and 12-16 for Chambers are all outrageously good. They may get relegated but at they have taken the fiscal responsibility title from Levy.

... shit can happen. Say they sell, the team is purchased in a leveraged buyout, then the team crashes out of the PL. With a load of new debt from the buyout, and foregoing the new tv revenue, then all of a sudden the club isn't looking so flush.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think selling all your good players in one summer is a solid idea. What I'm saying is you look at each deal in a vacuum and they've gotten great value on each one.
