Levy probably wanted him carbon dated

If, by the end of the day we have confirmed Soldado, I don't really see any great need for additional signings. Left back being an area we can improve but it isn't imperative.

Agree. I would assume our focus would shift more to selling players, and if we do a good amount of that, we'll then look into LB and depth at other positions like GK, etc.

Definitely agree there will be a few big names going out.

Either way, if this Soldado deal does go down , giddy up baby.

Clearly the most open ITK we've ever had over a transfer....but aren't we all trusting Spanish geezers who we've only heard of since....now, I do think it will go through, it has too, he's already one of my favourite spurs players....but it's starting to go on a little too much now. Want a result from this sooner rather than later, can't be still typing 'Soldado' into twitter come Wednesday....

Him on his way I presume. It's from a news feature someone posted on coys but no direct link was posted.

Tottenham have agreed a club-record £25.8million transfer with Valencia for striker Roberto Soldado, according to reports in Spain.

The deal is expected to be finalised in the next 48 hours when Soldado will fly to London for a medical and to rubber-stamp personal terms.

Tottenham will pay an initial £14m for the 28-year-old striker, according to Spanish radio station Cadena SER, and the rest will be handed over if certain clauses in the deal are triggered.

That appears to be a fantastic piece of business by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and technical director Franco Baldini, who finalised the deal by telephone last night.

Hot shot: Soldado scored 31 goals for club and country last season (Picture: AP)
Soldado is a prolific finisher, scoring 24 goals in La Liga last term. If he reproduces that form in the Premier League then Spurs will be confident they can finish in the top four and return to Champion League football.

Valencia had been holding out for the full £25.8m in the Spain international’s buyout clause and had turned down Spurs’ original offer of £22m.

Soldado will be Tottenham’s third signing this summer following Brazil international Paulinho’s £17m switch from Corinthians and the £7m capture of Nacer Chadli from FC Twente.
