Proof that win percentage is meaningless.

PPG only becomes relevant after a good sized data sample. 2 seasons at least.

For example, if you were to take a single season as reference then you could argue certain years that Sunderland or Ipswich were good sides.

Salmon is right, PPG is pointless until at least 2 seasons worth of results can be assessed. Anyone can have a flukey 6 months - 1 year.

Proof that win percentage us meaningless.
I wouldn't go so far…

One interesting thing about my experiment on the number of times Spurs have had a PPG rate as good or better as TS's current one (75 times in the past five years) is that though that is true, it's also only 75 times since ENIC has taken over the club.

So a rolling sample of half a season is actually not a terrible indicator of the relative health of the club. It's when it's cited out of the context of what's going on around it that trouble emerges (like that Moyes inherited a team with a better win %age).

Telling, then, that Harry and AVB had several runs of 19 matches where our PPG was even above 2. IMO, that shows the general strength of the squad over the past five years, calling into doubt precisely how much of an effect the managers actually had at all…
