Not with England Foden it’s not. He’ll play more like winks.

Foden has never been tried as a 10 for England. He's played as a winger, which he doesn't suit at all because of what the Southgate system asks of its wingers. He can do it with Pep because Pep wide players play a certain way. Southgate likes his wingers to be direct, to stay wide and to dribble and work on the counter.

If Gareth has the minerals to play the league's best player and De Bruyne's heir as a 10, it will be a success. He is a phenomenal, world class footballer. The selection of goals this season are some of the best I've seen. Unbelievable.

Bellingham 8, Foden 10?

This is also by far the best Foden has ever been. It's hard to imagine that in a tournament even Southgate can nullify him.

He is absolutely taking the piss this season - cutting in and bending in top corner repeatedly. Defenders can't deal with him at all. He has 3 more goals from outside the box than any other player in the league this season.

27 non-penalty goals this season and most of them are fucking bangers as well. I highly recommend some of the highlight reels.

————-Rice Bellingham
Saka —— Foden. —- Rashford
—————- Kane

That is an attacking team, especially with the centrebacks and keeper England have. You’ll lose 3-2 to the first good team you face

Replace Rashford with Gordon.

We might do with Southgate. A top coach would have no issue with that setup at all. Bellingham was a box to box type at Dortmund and the murmurs are he will return to this at Madrid. He isn't a natural 10 and he can do the other stuff. Rice is primarily a defensive player for England. Box to box, defensive mid and 10 .. it isn't that offensive, its actually quite textbook.

Southgate will play Gallagher/Rice/Bellingham with Foden/Saka on the wings, and it will suck, and we will still go out to the first good team we play but it will be boring and players will be in roles they don't suit.

Who’s playing left wing ? Gordon?

Absolutely Gordon. 11 goals 10 assists in the league, he's fucking rapid and his work off the ball is amazing, the guy never stops working for his team. His development this season has been nothing short of amazing and a credit to Eddie Howe. One of those players who is productive, but also bloody good on the eye test because he's constantly an active threat.

England have an incredible attacking Woolwich. Very varied, very technical, very dangerous. But we have a coach who isn't terrible, but is very cautious and very conservative. I don't hate Southgate like other England fans but its very questionable whether he's the guy to get the best out of these options. He was fine when we had a couple of great attackers and a solid base.

Tough at international level though. Even Pep would struggle.

Mind you, I’m very impressed with what Nagelsmann has done with Germany so it is possible.

Germany will be favourites due to their manager. England have in effect a championship level coach, Germany have an elite one. The best first 11’s of England, France, Germany aren’t all that different but Germany will have a much better coached team. My money is very much on Germany for the Euro’s.

Germany have a coach who isn't conservative/ Pep wouldn't struggle at all, his City midfield is waaaaayyyyy more offensive and lightweight, his teams play with fluidity. They get away with a Foden/Rodri/KDB midfield all the time.

International football is full of old fuddy-duddies mate. Young coaches usually want nothing to do with it because they want a full time job. Most international coaches are basically statesmen rather than coaches, they're there to keep people happy, engage well with the press and do the very basics with the team.

*Shrugs* Maybe Ze Germans are the faves because of that. But the reality is that its tournament football and international tournaments are the highest pressure games in the sport. They could be the best coached team and go out in the RO16 on pens after a bus park. Shit happens.

Agree with pretty much all of that.

I would just caveat Peo by saying it takes him months to get a tune out of his squads and he can buy the best players to fit that. He’d have neither of those luxuries with a national team.

Problem for England is that Foden would be best played exactly where Bellingham is playing. Southgate shunts him out on the left to get chalk on his boots at times which is completely wasting him and is why he only has four goals in an England shirt, and I think three of those came in one game. You could play him and Bellingham both centrally behind Kane, but then you're having to drop Saka who has been excellent for England.

It's mental that someone as good as Eze will likely to not have a kick in the Euros. He would be one of the first names on the team sheet for many other Nations.

If Stones or Rice get injured we can pretty much throw in the towel. Shaw .. Chilwell isn’t good but he could probably sort of piddle along doing his thing.

Stones or Rice and it’s game over. We just don’t have the cover.

Gallagher can step in for Rice and we don’t lose much.

Unless we are saying Rice is England’s #6 and then it’s a mess anyway. As soon as Rice left West Ham and moved to Woolwich, he gave up on winning trophies so England won’t win with him starting.
