Wilder:" We got quoted £20-25m for a forward playing in the Championship recently, but we didn’t think that was a fair number. We’re prepared to pay fair numbers, as we always have done, but we’re not going to be silly, and we’re certainly not going to be giving our players away for a fee we don’t think is right."

So Wilder unwittingly quotes the amount they think Spence is worth. I can see this playing out like Berahino and Peace saga.

They owe money on Dele as well, it was rumoured at £20m, I wonder if we can stall payments, maybe loan Winks on a loan to buy and a few other things to help their FFP maybe sweeten the deal for Richarlison.
Loan with an obligation is the same as a purchase for FFP reasons.

#Tottenham asked #FCBarcelona for an onerous loan with the option to buy #Lenglet. Negotiations between clubs, the French defender likes both Conte and Paratici @marcoconterio @TuttoMercatoWeb

1 CB (first XI)
1 RWB (first XI) I'm not convinced by spence
1 CF (back-up) better if he can play also in the son's position = depay? morata? bergwjin?

to change to much is a big risk, we could lose identity and can lead to dressing-room problems

In some cases, yes. Imo though this is more when there is too much change in the form of players who - almost - automically slots into the first 11.

Our top players - Kane, Son, Hugo, and arguably 1 or 2 more - will want to start competing at the top end of the table and have a real shot at a cup. They'll know that squad depth absolutely needs to be adressed, also broader than your suggestion. As will everyone in our squad.

The only player we've signed so far who automatically slots into our starting line-up is Perisic, and you could make the argument that he'll be the only one, no matter what happens. Bissouma will need to take a spot from Skipp, PEH, Bentacur. Whichever one or even two attacking will need to duke it out with Kulu for starts plus rotation starts. Even if we sign a top class CB then Dier and Davies has earned that it's their spot to lose.

I'm completely convinced that the whole squad understands this. Those who didn't have already been put to one side. If Davies, just to single out the most vulnerable starter from last season, wants glory, he'll have to be good enough to see off competition for his spot from top level signings, and of course he respects this fact. Otherwise Conte wouldn't have started him every match.

Even 5-6 more signings will not be an issue imho.

There is a pecking order. If City want say Phillips, then other clubs like Woolwich don’t get him.

If we, or Chelsea want say Raphinha then Woolwich don’t get him. Same with Utd and Eriksen.

I don’t understand the melting if Woolwich sign Jesus or Raphinha - that just means we don’t want them and have other targets.

There is plenty of time even before pre-season. People should chill a bit.
Or they didn't want Spurs. It's a well-known fact that Raphinha's clear 1st choice is Barca - if their finances were in order Spurs wouldn't have a chance (nor any other club).
PS! Chelski are still above Spurs in the pecking order...but the gap is being reduced.

Someone mentioned Moussa Diaby being a good shout.

Looks mustard on YouTube
And Leverkusen wants "mustard money" for him. The price quoted in the press is €100m.

Jesus is a player for a team that had no strikers yet was barley trusted, he isn’t a bad player but he is a big step down when compared to Richarlison or Raphinha or Kulusevski. He would be an ok bench player for us. This will not take Woolwich any further.
We can downplay this as much as we want, but he's still going to score 20 goals for them.

Yep, the screws are tightening….

I doubt it.

He hasn’t scored 20 for City per season in the prem with the best supporting attackers in the league, he may do that but he would have to improve significantly as a player.

Lewandowski Bulls X Malta Mrs.P Joan Thomas cretinousgoat new signing levy on the radio vikings are shite winks new deal five years edmonton more into hockey canada is burning stanley cup is as boring as woolwich johnson is boris hyacinth is wanking mr bucket and all that.

This is the kind of signing I don’t understand why we don’t just pay the money and get him. Apparently Boro want 15 million for the guy, that is quite literally pennies for a Champions League PL club now. Why don’t we just pay it if the manager wants him?

We have previous for doing this with Championship players too. Sessengnon and Grealish spring to mind.

We could have got Sessengnon for much cheaper than the eventual 30 million we had to pay for him and we could have got Grealish for a very decent price too if we had just stopped dithering.
Boro wanted £15M from Forest, they want £25M + from us.

How stupid do you need to be to pay nearly double the price that was quoted to another team in the same league?

Utd were doing that regularly, worked out well for them didn't it?
