Does anyone think Wigan was shit because the type of people that go?

By that I mean it doesn't sell out as quick as the big games so I would assume that a lot of people that often go choose to miss this so you end up with a lot more people who dont get to go that often.

I have to admit I haven't been to Wigan at home for a few years now as I cant afford to do all games, I often choose to give this one a miss.

I wonder how many season ticket holders give up their tix for this one?

Probably completely wrong, just a thought.

I did exactly what Dru is suggesting.

First home game I've missed all season.

That's not so much to do with Wigan as a team, more the fact Wigan always bring about 26 people, and they way things have been at the Lane this season you just knew the atmosphere would be awful.

And then we produce that sort of performance. It did honestly sound as if nobody was there at points on the stream I was watching.

Excellent post from GG.

......................................

"I have been a Spurs fan for 40 years.

I have been going to games at the Lane for more than 30 years.

I have had two season tickets for nigh on 20 years.

In all that time, I have borne witness to some truly shocking Spurs performances. I have suffered some dreadful Spurs teams. I have been subjected to some acutely embarrassing results. And I have swallowed some bitter disappointments.

Yet my love of going to games has never wavered.

Until now.

What am I talking about? This current team? This manager? Today's performance?

No. None of those. That would be silly. I have seen far worse teams. Far worse performances. And this manager needs time - to succeed or to fail.

No..........what I'm talking about is, sadly, something that I have all too often had to talk about over the past few seasons - but especially this season.

I'm talking about our fans. I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that our fans are the worst in the entire country. If I was a Spurs player, I wouldn't want to play for us. If I was Gareth Bale, I would be telling my agent to get me out of here as quickly as possible. If I was Jan Vertonghen, I'd be asking myself why the fuck I signed for this club. If I was a kid at his first game, I wouldn't want to support Spurs. I'd look elsewhere for a club upon which to lavish my love and, in the future, my money.

There's just a terrible feeling around the Lane these days. No fun. No passion. No unity. No sense of a club and fans on a shared journey, with a common cause.

And no.....poor performances are no excuse for the utter lack of any support from the stands - a few sorry, half hearted and short lived chants from the Park Lane notwithstanding. As I said, anyone who has been coming to the Lane for any length of time has had to put up with far worse than what we witnessed today, far too often in the past. But we still had an atmosphere.

Today, the only time that the vast majority of fans (to call them "supporters" would be a misnomer) stirred themselves from utter silence was to boo or berate. I wouldn't mind the booing and the slagging off of players and manager if those who were voicing their displeasure had earned it by at least making some effort to get behind the team in the first place. But no, these people prefer to sit in po-faced silence....until something goes wrong, at which point they suddenly find their voices. And then some. Sickening. Disheartening.

Modern football has stripped the game of most of its romance. But, still, I can take financially doped clubs like Chelsea and City in my stride. I can take the erosion of true competition. I can take the inexorable spread of commercialism.

But what I can't take is the metamorphosis of the atmosphere at the Lane from the impressive and electric experience that it once was to the depressing embarrassment that it now is. In short, it's just no fun going to games any more. Time was when it was always fun - regardless of the quality of the Spurs team of the day. Nowadays, it's never really fun - even when we play brilliantly.

Fans have it within them to make games fun regardless of the performance or the result. But they choose not to. Maybe they have forgotten it? Maybe they never even knew it?

Whatever..........unless things change - and quickly - it saddens me profoundly to have to confess that this could very well be the final straw. My days of being a regular at the Lane could soon be coming to an end."

I haven't been a fan anywhere near as long as you but I can understand what you are getting at. I have only been going to Spurs for about 8 years but even I think the dynamic of football supporter going to games has changed a bit, or at least is changing. I dont know about lower leagues but I do think clubs like ourselves Woolwich and co are attracting more people who want to go and see the games rather than just support the team and have a day out with the lads.

I dunno, maybe I'm wrong but I just think that's the way it is now, with the bigger names in the PL charging their fans silly money to watch a game, plenty of people are now priced out of going regularly. I know a few older lads who used to go all the time and were probably a bit 'norty' that say its all changed too much and its too expensive now.

Maybe the change began when Levy came in and we started to become more of a business than a club with all the rebranding and stuff, may be I'm wrong, maybe it was before that? You'd be better placed to answer that question than I.

Sums up what a lot of us seem to be thinking very nicely. There are sets of supporters all over the place who put us to shame. And often at clubs that never win anything - ever. Also though at clubs that win more than us IMHO.

Seems like this is coming at a good time in a way.

Maybe, if we make enough noise and the whole stadium makes a little bit more than they usually do this will come over really well on TV, people will associate WHL with noise/atmosphere and the revival will feed itself.

Either that or we all get kicked out for blowing up balloons.

I can't wait for this game. I'm looking forward to it so much...and I won't even be there!

I look forward to players, media and fans (yes, Spurs fans) finding out there is indeed support for the club out there. There are people who want to sing and cheer for our team, there are fans who believe in supporting come hell or high water and that we can be proud to call ourselves Tottenham.

I wish to god I could be there....be a part of it, do me proud please lads, we all need this.

Hey guys new here.

So I heard mention of this 1882 movement in response to this post I made in another forum -

The atmosphere at home games is definitely becoming a major issue now.

I cant help but think the club needs to work with the fans to get some sort of organised vocal support going to improve the atmosphere at the ground.

Somewhere along the way people forget that the idea of being a supporter is to support the team. These forums are a great place to vent our frustrations - but at the games we as supporters need to be doing everything to give our team something a bit extra. That doesnt seem to happening right now so I think we need some sort of organised faction who are willing to make a bit of noise, support the team, and just have a bit of fun - is the best way forward.

I live in Sydney and went to a game last weekend involving Central Coast and Sydney - in which Sydney got spanked 7-2 - and the atmosphere in the away support was still fantastic - and that was because there is always an organised bunch of blokes who are constantly leading chants, coming up with creative songs, providing a bit of colour (which flags, scarves etc..) and just generally trying to get everyone going and lift the mood.

I am moving back to London in January and am going to get to as many games as possible - but from what I have seen WHL does not look like a fun place to be atm. As a 22 year old myself, I agree there do not seem to be a lot of young fans. But never the less I still think a lot can be done to create a better atmosphere - of course it doesnt help when the stewards are telling you to sit down at every opportunity.

Can anyone give me some more info as to what you guys are all about - and perhaps how I can join in when I am back in London. Thanks heaps.

It's a fact that the atmosphere at all the big teams' stadiums has turned shit, but among all of these I have a feeling about us being the first (and only?) club to turn the support back into something positive, back to what it was, thanks to all of the members of this forum! The event on thursday could be a very important one, not because of the competition, but for all of the other reasons that makes Tottenham to the great club it actually is. If I could, I would've cancelled my exams later this week, booked a plane (through spending all my money) from Norway and joined you guys in Block J!

I really hope this is something the big men in the club - :levystare: - will pay attention to, and in addition to the ongoing Safe standing survey I see a bright future for Tottenham Hotspur!

COYS !!! :dawson:

I'll be there alone all the way from Sweden to support Spurs :parker:
Sitting, excuse me, standing in J.

When is a good time to be at Bricklayers?

Tomenham, You won't be the only one from Sweden. Me and my mates will be heading to bricklayers as well. Also got tickets for the J-section.

Be at Bricklayers around 6pm, thats when the magic starts!
