The question should be more why did the Premier League start so unnecessarily early, straight after a World Cup? We could've had another week off, and still had 2 weeks to spare (1 week if the finalist is in the FA Cup Final) at the end of the season, which is exactly what La Liga did, with the final round of games taking place this weekend.
Also it feels like we've had international breaks every other week.

Why is there such a huge gap between the end of the season and the CL final?

Does Infantino need to get a holiday in to get the final refreshed? Or does this Nations League rubbish need to be fitted in?

They could have easily pulled it forward a week so allowing the lads to have an extra week off before pre-season (1 July?)

It's because both the FA Cup Final and the Playoff Finals need to be held at Wembley and you can't play any other game on the weekend of the CL final.

So you need two clear weekends in between the end of the PL and CL final.

They've held the playoffs on the same weekend as the Champions League final. Hell, in 2013 they held the Championship playoff final in the same stadium as the Champions League final on the same weekend.

Shear incompetence by PL directly after WC to start so early - screwed up our season as players arrived back after WC and 3 week hols to start PL without any pre season. For that to work it meant England Belgium and France not to have got out of the group stages - instead of which all in last 4 of WC which with an increased size took longer to get to.

I guess those pillars at the top of the stand on the left (one of the few bits of the 20,000 capacity stadium that was there before) restrict the view a bit:

it's a ridiculous choice just to keep an old stand that wasn't even so important history-wise. Probably much cheaper than a giant arch to hold up that side of the roof though. And they didn't want rear mounted cantilevers to spoil the lines on the outside.
