City just have better quality players than us. That's what you can do if you invest in the team. We have been punching above our weight thanks mainly to poch.
Sorry, but that is such a simplistic way to look at it...
If it were that 'easy', then why isn't everyone doing it?
City have been completely bankrolled by one of the richest Families/Country in THE WORLD... the landscape is completely lopsided!
Even If we spent every penny of Joe Lewis's fortune, we STILL couldn't compete with the (frankly) disgusting amounts of money ONE club is able to throw at a problem to make it a success!

We can NEVER compete with that kind of cash, so unless we disband as a club until the Sheiks either disappear from the game, or buy US out and send us up the same ladder, then there's really no point In simplifying what has become a big problem in the game.

Unfortunately, in todays' greedy, impatient society, Money will ALWAYS get you what you want... and there are PLENTY of examples of that in history!

So you don't think investing more in the team makes you better in general? You don't think we would be better if we invested more? Or you do because I think that's why you are saying city are so good?
Or are you saying there's no point us investing more & being better because city would invest even more & still be better?
Or city are only good because they invest so much. But if you invest a smaller amount it means there's no guarantee you will be better?

As for the "we never can compete with city & there cash", tell it to all the people who thought we could win the title just a few weeks ago. I agree with you on that one. You need to invest a lot to regularly win titles. I have always said that.
Also you say it's not as simple as spend more cash & you get better but then you say that's why city are so good.

An old statement but I’ll say it anyway at the start of the season at this point with 8games to go would you have taken 3rd in the league with our destiny in our own hands, which it is at this point and we don’t have to rely on anybody else doing our job! And last 8 of the champions league! Yes or no?

Could probably do with sticking with ONE defensive line-up this season.....

--

In comparison, here our defensive line-ups and games played when we had the best defence in the league (16/17).

Walker - Alderweireld - Vertonghen - Rose (Played 6 games together) - W3, D2, L1, Cleansheet: 3
Walker - Alderweireld - Vertonghen - Davies (Played 6 games together) - W4, D1, L1, Cleansheet: 2
Walker - Dier - Vertonghen - Rose (Played 6 games together) - W4, D2, L0, Cleansheet: 2
Walker - Dier - Alderweireld - Vertonghen - Davies (Played 4 game together) - W4, D0, L0, Cleansheet: 2
Trippier - Alderweireld - Vertonghen - Davies (Played 4 games together) - W4, D0, L0, Cleansheet: 2
Walker - Dier - Alderweireld - Vertonghen - Rose (Played 2 games together) - W2, D0, L0, Cleansheet: 2
Walker - Dier - Alderweireld - Davies (Played 2 games together) - W1, D0, L1, Cleansheet: 1
Walker - Dier - Alderweireld - Vertonghen (Played 1 game together) - W1, D0, L0, Cleansheet: 1
Walker - Dier - Wimmer - Vertonghen - Rose (Played 1 game together) - W0, D1, L0, Cleansheet: 0
Walker - Dier - Vertonghen - Wimmer (Played 1 game together) - W0, D0, L1, Cleansheet: 0
Trippier - Dier - Alderweireld - Vertonghen - Rose (Played 1 game together) - W1, D0, L0, Cleansheet: 0
Walker - Dier - Alderweireld - Wimmer - Rose (Played 1 game together) - W0, D1, L0, Cleansheet: 0
Walker - Dier - Alderweireld - Rose (Played 1 game together) - W0, D1, L0, Cleansheet: 1
Trippier - Dier - Alderweireld - Vertonghen - Davies (Played 1 game together) - W1, D0, L0, Cleansheet: 1
Sissoko - Dier - Alderweireld - Vertonghen - Davies (Played 1 game together) - W1, D0, L0, Cleansheet: 0

When checking this, barely ANY full back rotation at all unless players were injured or it came to the end of the season and Walker has decided he was going to leave so game time fluctuated between Walker and Trippier.

What I take away from that is why the FUCK have we wasted Dier's development in midfield when he was performing admirably at centre half!?

Not if I was told we were going to be on the crest of a slump going into the last 8 games , having blown a 10 point lead and still having Liverpool and City to come.

Context comes into it IMO.

We might well drag ourselves over the line, but it’s hardly inspiring stuff.

I know I’m in the minority on this, but Top 4 has always struck me as one of the naffest races in modern football. The argument that it attracts better players is simply not true - money does.

True, but you cannot possible be blind to the CL being a huge vehicle to getting that money?

Not just right now, because the prize and tv money isn't that huge in changing things immidiately, but in terms of positioning ourselves as a (sub-top) European force. That will create better chances of the huge commercial deals, which is where we're really playing a big, big game of catch-up. Don't have to like it, but a continued presence in the World's biggest club competition (along with the stadium) is the only way to cement a place, where we can challenge for top honours consistently. The FA Cup does fuck all for us in that respect.

I don't rate Chelsea at all. Doubt they will win next two games, or even get a point at United. Not worried about Woolwich cuz they have Everton, Watford, Leicester and Wolves away. No chance they win them all.

Never mind the chavs, I thought I was being generous with our 18 points lol. We've got to win six of the last eight games to get that points haul which, on recent form, looks a tall order, no?

here's a prediction... watford, wolves, southampton and frigging burnley. that's twelve points most would have probably given us. we should be one point behind the oil riggers god damn it!

Here is how the top 6 table will look at the end of the season if we base the remaining games on the same results from last season:

Man City - 94pts
Liverpool - 86pts
Man Utd - 79pts
Tottenham - 78pts
-----------------------------
Chelsea - 74pts
Woolwich - 73pts

Here is how the top 6 table would look like if we base the remaining results on the reverse fixtures from this season:

Liverpool - 95pts
Man City - 92pts
Tottenham - 79pts
Woolwich - 76pts

Man Utd - 73pts
Chelsea - 72pts

Is it a slow Sunday?

Is it a slow Sunday?

Pretty much.

Though whilst our defence is absolute garbage - it probably doesn't help when you've got Sissoko and Dier ahead of you instead of Wanyama and Dembele from 2 years ago.

You'd struggle to find a worse downgrade in world football.

Yeah i think it was more “look at us aren’t we clever,we don’t need anybody in our squad it’s strong and experienced enough” I was the first to applaud that philosophy spending ridiculous amounts of money on bang average players when there was no need for it and to a point we’ve got away with it but for the remainder of the season we will see if it worked completely but at this point it doesn’t look promising does it! There are things that should have been taken into consideration when going ahead with the plan injuries, loss of form and to an extent bad luck! but saying that these issues affect other teams as well not just us (but at times it looks like just us:unsure:) further more though this point should be in Pochettino thread when the decision was made not to buy anyone the manager would have been in the loop Levy didn’t decide that himself! They both would/should have know the pitfalls of not strengthening the squad more so Pochettino but he has said many times he thrusts his squad so he can’t say one thing and do another!

Impressive, thanks for doing this I find these kind of this really good when trying to understand where things are going right/ wrong.

Both of our goals conceded yesterday came from sloppy defensive play. Vertonghen let the ball go across him and Rose tried to dummy it & with their 2nd goal we actually had a free kick in their half due to Hojbjerg diving. We pushed both CBs up and got caught with the high defensive line.

Personally I think it's a combination of a few things. One it's a mental issue, 2 elements of depth in certain areas has hindered us and 3 the gaffer is playing with tactics that are very headstrong after something happens in a game that pegs us back.

I love our attack minded football but it's leaving certain areas of our field looking a little Bambi on ice. That Woolwich game, even when they got that penalty at the end we were very high up and it left Aubemayang up top with Davinson holding him off. Personally I think we are a little too inpatient in trying to get the ball back, a little heavy footed with our movement trying to close down and not ruthless enough with good goalscoring chances. Throw in the vast amount of individual errors because we are reluctant to just clear our lines or just play it safe and a little luck not going our way and it seems leaving us huffing and puffing a fair old amount.

This season we've had to fall back onto 3rd and 4th choice defensive midfielders, haven't had a settled backline, have had so many disruptions to our attacking flow but I do think there is a lack of focus for whatever reason at vitally important times in games. A lack of being sensible where we think all we have to do is turn up and play half decent and it should be enough to get us over the line. Yesterday Rose was very too nonchalant at a key time of the match. Signings or not there's not a lot a manager can do if a player switches off like that unless he replaces them which of course we can't do during the season.

The players have bigger aspirations than just getting top 4 but the reality is their kicking of the wounds since that Burnley game has left them having to chase something that they don't have a fire in the belly for and for me the desperation and urge simp,y isn't there. The effort is but there's no fight in the eyes, no real success achieved if we finish top 4 in their heads and it's giving us a real psychological disadvantage going into games against teams scrapping a team the top and foot of the table. Our game management blew it yesterday, we weren't artful or able to change into defensive duties as a collective enough to see out the game.
