And some foreign players ARE homegrown

"Home Grown' simply means that a player must have been on the books of a club affiliated with the Football Association for at least three years before they turn 21 – it does not mean that they have to be English. "

Ok, got it. So, Dier is portugese, Davies is English outside of England, but is English in England. Foyth, born in Argentina, will be English next year. Does any of this BS have anything to do with Brexit?

Foyth won't class as homegrown. He hasn't spent enough time in England.

You need to have spent 3 years on the books at an English club before you turn 21. Fairly certain Foyth just misses it.

As far as Spurs are concerned we have 2 British players Dier and Davies.
Because Dier started his career in Portugal he is classed as non-HG for both the ECL and EPL.
Because Davies started his career in Wales he is classed as non-HG for ECL but not EPL.
All our other British players are classed as HG.
Unless you care about how the issue affects other clubs that's basically it.

Edit: Foyth (similar to Dier) will have spent his early career in England so from season 2020-21 he will be considered HG for both ECL and EPL.

I have just edited my post to make it clearer. From season 2020-21 Foyth will be considered HG for EPL and club trained for ECL
1919-20 Foyth is considered U21 for both ECL and EPL.
Is this helping or not? 😵
He wont. You have to have been on our books from 16-17 to class as a homegrown. Fairly certain foyth will class as a foreign player

sudoku is correct.

In 2019/20 because Foyth has spent 2 years at a club affiliated to The FA he will be classed as an u21 for both CL and PL.

In 2020/21 Foyth will revert to being an overseas trained player as he has NOT spent 3 years at a club affiliated with FA before the age of 21.

Boris and Farage say yes because they are attention seekers.

The FA says no.

Does that help ?

Foyth will be U21 at the beginning of and will have spent 3 years at Spurs at the end of season 2019-20.

UEFA defines locally-trained or 'homegrown' players as those who, regardless of their nationality, have been trained by their club or by another club in the same national association for at least three years between the age of 15 and 21.

I'm pretty sure he didn't join us until just after his 19th birthday, which means he won't have 3 years total time at our club by the time he turns 22. It's a damn shame.

For CL, you need 4 club-trained players minimum, and 8 nation-trained players minimum.
Club trained players obviously count as nation trained players as well.
The rest can be foreign.
If you don't make the minimums, your total possible squad registration of 25 goes down for each slot not filled.

The Dier thing I understand the rationale for, but the Davies thing is utterly absurd. Swansea City play in the English league system! The whole point is to incentivize national league systems to develop their own players!

Sort of actually. Under EU law they aren't allowed to just have a quota of English players because it would go against freedom of movement - an EU citizen would have restrictions on them working in the UK as a footballer than a UK citizen wouldn't have. So they have to use this as a workaround, so that it isn't based on nationality, and they can claim that it's about encouraging youth development rather than English players specifically. Post-Brexit if we leave the single market then we would be able to just make it English or British players instead if we wanted to for the Premier League, but UEFA competitions would continue to use the workaround system because obviously most participating clubs are in the EU and the rules have to be the same for everyone competing.

Swansea and Cardiff are affiliated to the Football Association of Wales (notThe Football Association to which Spurs and other PL clubs are affiliated) so although both Swansea and Cardiff play in the English league system, any players coming through their youth systems are not Home Grown for other PL clubs ( for UEFA purposes,) but are regarded as "overseas trained".

However players trained by Swansea and Cardiff are regarded as Home Grown by PL.

So Ben Davies trained in Swansea youth system is home grown for PL but overseas trained for UEFA competitions such as CL

Next season CL registration:

Club trained (3):
Kane
Winks
Skipp
(KWP)
(Whiteman)

Nation-trained (3):
Dele
Rose
Trippier

Foreign (12):
Hugo
Son
Lucas
Jan
Davinson
Dier
SIssoko
Davies
Lamela
Gazzaniga
Aurier*
Wanyama

U21 (1):
Foyth

Out (4):
Toby
Vorm
Llorente
Eriksen

We are 1 player short on club-trained and 1 on nation-trained.
Promoting KWP and Whiteman can fill two of these sports, but it leaves us with 1 too many RBs, suggesting an Aurier sale.
Rose and Trippier are practically unsellable bc of their nation-trained-ness.

Toby is replaced by Foyth and Dier
Aurier is sold (?) and replaced by KWP.
There is now room for a young defender.
+1 defenders needed

Llorente is replaced by Son/Moura
This gives us space to add an attacker.
+1 attackers needed

Eriksen is replaced by a new attacking signing
This gives us space to add an attacker.
+1 attackers needed

We should be shooting for a 25 man squad as it helps us stay more healthy and fresh all season.
Assuming we promote KWP and Whiteman, we would have 19 and would need

2 new attackers
1 new defender
1 new midfielder

just to give us 23 players.

Ndombele 52m eur
+
Lo Celso 46m eur
Draxler 27m eur
+
Young nation-trained or trainable CB 10m eur

We'd still have room for two more players- hopefully use this to promote worthy youth(?)

Hopefully this is correct: :)

ECL rules: Dier was trained in Portugal. Non-HG.
ECL
rules: Davies was trained in Wales. Non-HG
EPL
rules: Davies is HG.
ECL rules: Foyth has been at Spurs 2 years and is List B (U 21)
ECL
rules: Parrott joined Spurs on 1/7/18 so can't be U21.
ECL rules: Sessegnon has not been with us 2 years: Association
EPL
rules: Sessegnon: U21

Agreed,

I've got a similar listing in the Transfer Thread based upon CL definition of players.

Perhaps worth adding that Poch could decide to add Parrott to the CL squad until January and then take him out if we sign 2 overseas trained players for the first team - after all its not likely he would be playing in many if any of the post group CL matches.

Or Poch could simply not name him in CL and give him a few appearances in PL and domestic cups - if he follows Skipp's introductory season he made no CL appearances.

Point I'm making is we actually have 2 Overseas trained player places (assuming Wanyama leaves) allowing us to buy in the January TW without the headache of selling players.
