I have seen it suggested that we should move for Mata as a short term solution which i don't understand considering he has been at Chelsea previously to being at Utd he will presumably be on high wages.
This is not the levy model which is a longer term vision is in place which involves recruitment of young players and pay them not much more than a paperboy them sell on at a later date for huge sums and profit, no way will we invest in any short term opportunity madness to even suggest it.
I would gladly be a paper boy if I made 70k a week

Ageing luxury player who has no place in a pressing team

No thanks
'Ageing' is exactly why I bought his expiring contract to attention, an experienced and winning playmaker to bring some desperately needed 'game craft' to an injury hit midfield. And in case you haven't noticed, we are no longer a pressing team. For no fee at all, I'd call it a no brainer.

The younger players will be on less than that but yeah would be nice
20-25K a week is our standard entry contract for a young first team player apparently (apparently that is what Alli entered on for example).

Still an awful lot of money in the greater non footballing state of things. And it's not just Levy that operates like this. Man City have also moved more towards this formula, lower base salaries, good bonuses that are fairly easy to achieve.

Just 20 days left for Levy to put his balls on the table and convince Poch that Spurs can match his ambitions

To sign no one at all would be just astonishing in my opinion.

And those who say we don't need anyone would be strangely assuming signings will arrive at some point.

My question would at that stage be when exactly, based on what and why is it that as a club we cannot seemingly identify players with potential worth developing or proven players who could immediately add value?

It is not a matter of wanting signings for the sake of it as opposed to wanting signings to give us an even greater chance of chasing a catchable Liverpool this season.

It is a certain lack of ambition that is the most perplexing aspect.

I'd love to sign one good first team player, probably a CM or CM/AM, but history could be against that :
Jan 18 - Lucas Moura (exception to the rule or change in Spurs strategy of buying in Jan ?)
Jan 17 - None
Jan 16- Shilow Tracey (youth team player)
Jan 15- Dele Alli - Loaned back until July. so didn't play for Spurs until next season .
Jan 14 - None
And guess what transpired in each of the seasons mentioned?
We won Jack Shit. Thats what.

Now here we are.
Poch the Superman has somehow once again got us in a title race, got us within 3 ties of a champions league final, and 2 games away from breaking the longest trophy drought in the clubs recent history via the League cup.
Not to mention the fucking FA cup.

And the man himself has said we have to freshen up and keep improving the squad. We need to change our approach if we are to become succesful.

Surely, now more than ever, this is the time.

The time for Levy/ENIC to finally give Pochettino and the football team they forgot about last summer the recognition and support it deserves.

Tick.Tock.Tick.Tock.

Get your balls out Mr Levy. Don't let us, or Poch, down again

It's clear that we are not going to pay big transfer fees and big wages which will rule out the likes ofof DeJong, Doucoure, Ndombele for example, so if the policy is to continue signing young players with potential for reasonable fees and wages that fit within our structure then we must be taking chances on the likes of Berge, Barella, and Grillitsch. Winks and Skipp are obviously here to stay but they cannot carry the burden of running the midfield on their own. Dembele is almost gone, Wanyama cannot stay fit and should be sold if possible and I'm not sure how long Dier will hang around and even if he does Poch might put him back in defence once Toby leaves.

Ideally we buy at least one this January so that he has time to get used to Poch, the squad, the league and is all set to go for pre season. If not let's hope we can at least sign Berge now even if he stays in Belgium till the end of the season. But we must do something now imo because this summer there are other areas of the team that will need addressing with the likely departures of Eriksen and Alderweireld.

I wouldn't build your hopes up too much mate otherwise your going to be left serverly dissapointed.:levywtf::sonpoint:

Just watched Leeds home grown Jack Clarke play brilliant against Derby tonight. May be worth a punt as it looks like Leeds are skint again and Poch knows Bielsa well?

I think we as a club defy the odds so much that there is a grand and enduring assumption that it will continue.

It's as though we don't look for players.
