“When you talk about the fitness of the players, you have to talk about the structure [at the club]. It’s not only about the manager or the sports science people. It’s about creating links to all the different departments, working together and taking decisions together. Jesús is my right-hand man and he is responsible for [overseeing] the fitness, with the sports science and the medical staff. It’s very important to work on prevention and to work in the same way.”

So something is different from last season. If the decrease in injuries is a result of our medical staff or Poch's guys (or just luck) is too early to say. My point is that things are done in a different way now.

So the medical staff have gone from incompetent to excellent......or where there other factors.

Im guessing they were never incompetent in the first place, and it was just another load of forum hysterics from people who know nothing about being a doctor.

So the medics are still shit...?

But the injuries have improved?

So was it still the medics fault last year?

Not just about indivduals in the medical team but the overall approach, we have greater sqaud rotation, Poch is talking about getting different teams to talk and plan together and having indivdual training plans for different players. We might just be better organised now but we seem to be doing alright on the injury/fitness front.

This Jesus person wasn't here last year, he's Poch's guy. Injuries is not all about recovery after the fact, but also about preventing them in the first place. It seems that shaping the training for the players on an individual basis is Jesus' thing.

We have changed the approach.....but if our medics were shit, and incompetent and should be fired, less than a year ago, it stands to reason that it wouldnt help without a new set of medics.

Verdict: The medics are, and have been doing an excellent job all along. Now we have a better system for fitness.

Some of the shit being spouted here about them was disgusting. People should be ashamed.

He might be called Jesus, but I dont think he has made incompetent, shit doctors suddenly brilliant....do you?

A worrying trend clearly, lets hope that this season isnt a fluke.
Mind you, some consistancy with staff / training wouldnt hurt, regardless of where the blame lies.

I think its important to note that the year Ledley King retired we go from top, to mid table.
And then in a season that was an absolute cluster fuck, in which regimes would have been changing (for example, one of our new players would have had at least 3 different training regimes that season) we jump back up again. If we can have some consistency for the next couple of years and don't sign anyone with dodgy knees, we should drop right down.

Maybe the fitness regimen has helped our players to some extent but I think ultimately 75% of injuries are just down to bad luck. We're dealing with a small sample size of Poch's reign as well. If this continues well into next season then maybe we can gain a more firm conclusion from it.

I would agree with your point that we can't look at this small sample size and think it'll go on as long as Poch is here, but you also cant say that being consistently at the top 1 or 2 for injuries year after year is down to bad luck... One or two injuries could be chalked down to bad luck, but not being at the top of the injured list, plus other teams have "bad luck" when it comes to injuries at well, not just us...

wow. I thought we had one of the best injury records this season.
Pritchard will take up the vast majority of those days as he has been injured all season and he is not a starter, so his injury isn't felt, unlike say Dembele. What I found surprising was the scum, been hearing all season them bang on about their injuries to find that only 7 teams have a better record.

true. a lot of arsenals injury's have been more squad players like arteta, debuchy etc.
id only really say that sanchez has been a key player missing for quite a while.
