pls stop the hate here... He does look bigger than two years ago, but it's not fat it's muscle.

One of things is likely:
  1. All the viruses and injuries he had last year have effected his stamina & mobility, shame he was a great prospect.
  2. All the Poch double training sessions and gym work, have effected his stamina and he's bulked up too much.
If if's the second one, he can come back from it, Mourinho is obvously a fan of his.

Always liked Dier, seems like an intelligent chap with strong mental attributes. Probably why manages seem to rate him...

However, think the game as somewhat moved past the more static guard type DM ( see Matic). Gone are the days of a Kurt Zouma playing there ( see ‘16 LC final ).

Feel like if given a fair chance, he could make a very good centre back. However, he’s not dynamic, nippy and technically gifted enough to play in our midfield. Unfortunately with teams now pressing like crazy, he seems unable to receive the ball with his back to play and turn out... which is imperative from a DM.

I’d be interested to see if Winks and Tunguy can muster enough defensive qualities between them ...
His debut was as a full back, can we not play him there? We have tried nearly everyone else ;)

Four days later, Dier was back in the Tottenham’s engine room - patrolling the midfield zone in this win against Bournemouth with the kind of authority that made him one of England’s indispensables not too long ago.
There’s rustiness, but that is to be expected given the meagre amount of football he’s played this season.
Those game deficiencies shouldn't last long; it is becoming increasingly clear Dier will become an important piece of Mourinho’s jigsaw.
Extract from Daily Mail whose writer clearly saw it differently to the Dier haters. Personally apart from the odd misplaced pass I hardly noticed him but that is not necessarily a bad thing.

If we can get the Dier back from a few seasons ago, we have a real player on our hands. The only way for him to find his form again is to allow him to do so. Hope Jose keeps playing him in midfield

Covered the most distance today.

Would never have guessed that!
Those of you watching on TV wouldnt have been able to see the off the ball tracking he did and plugging gaps in defence.

That's something a DM has to do but fans don't see that and end up just saying he was shit. He blocked a few shots and stopped attacks developing.
That's the minimum a DM must do.

The other stuff when in possession of the ball comes later.

Lots of fans loved Sandro including myself. But he had deficiencies with the ball too.

You are not allowed to pick on Dele but you are allowed to abuse and slate Dier

His injuries don’t count
His illnesses don’t count
His mistreatment and lack of game time under Poch doesn’t count

Fucking state of some of you

While you’ve slaughtered Dele while giving Dier a free pass. It’s just hates and faves with you - you’re exactly the same as those you’re criticising.

Fucking state of you.
