He was miles off yesterday. He mistimed several challenges, should have been yellow carded on three occasions and should have conceded a penalty. Thankfully the referee was a moron.

Pochettino made a massive mistake in not taking him off earlier. The fact that he took him off after half time indicates that he knew he was going to get sent off - so why didn’t he do this earlier when it was clear the wheels had fallen off? He was very, very lucky that Dier wasn’t red carded before the half ended.

Not that it mattered! Can’t believe Sonny’s reaction. Although if he was sent off for violent conduct, the wanker that triggered him by body checking him earlier in the game and punching him in the back should have been sent off too.

Either way, both Dier and Son’s behaviour tells me that there’s shit going on behind the scenes. The stress and fatigue is probably getting to everyone.

I wanted Dier sold to Man Utd but it didn't happen unfortunately. He's just not good enough for where we want to be. He's too heavy and not mobile enough. If anyone will have him......

Can't really defend any of his performances this season.

It's all well and good being versatile but when you're not performing well in any of them, is there much point? Especially when he doesn't even come under the HG quota either.

He either needs to tell Pochettino that he wants to be a central defender and go from there or he needs to leave the club for the good of his career, in my honest opinion.

Big summer for him really. Because we will strengthen our central midfield which puts him further and further down the pecking order. Alderweireld leaving MIGHT be good news for him because it could mean he becomes fourth choice centre half.

We'll see, I guess.

Ever since his first full year in CM, I was weary of his progression. Stressed for years that he has to make the move back to save his career because there will be very few leagues that will want a slow, technically devoid player in their CM positions. I thought he was captain material at one point.

On a different, but related point, I think the bulking up of players can be a detriment to their development. Dier has gotten much stronger and thicker since he started his career here. Same goes for Dele. The girth can take a away a lot of the ballet that is part of football. Bale is another case study.

The problem for Dier is that he's been injured and hasn't played a lot of minutes. He's not match sharp. Really, this club should be doing a lot better than relying him to affect the game going forward far more than he should be relied on. I miss Moussa Dembele.

One reason Dier looked so good back in his previous seasons is... we had attacking full backs!!!

If we're playing 4 at the back... the big advantage Dier gives us is his flexibility to fit into the back 3 and allow our full backs to shift forward. Walker/Rose looked like the best FBs in the league during that stretch. I think we have to be careful when looking at Dier, he can still be valuable for a squad like ours, we just haven't maintained our system. Dier shouldn't be playing next to robust players like Wanyama or Sissoko and then when you have a right back that can't even take players on - lol

Regarding Dier, I feel for him. He is clearly trying and his body is not at the pace it was. Also, anyone, I don't care who it is, needs some fucking support and cover alongside them in defensive midfield. Jesus Christ, even Sissoko could do with a centre-back beside him whenever playing in a two. Playing in a three or diamond also hasn't helped the overall team structure in my opinion, and Poch leaves that area exposed unnecessarily and is asking his players to do the impossible.

This season, it has been hard for me to see what Dier even does for this team. He is just out there. Been waiting for him to score with his head on a corner kick or........anything.

Missed a lot of games tbf.

Just checked; 2 EPL goals this season tho'.

I remember him being a colossus afew times in the centre of a back 3, I hope that's where he puts his energy into with Toby probably leaving

Best game he has had in two plus years was the Real game I believe; when Toby went down with that extensive hammy injury. He dropped back and had a blinder of a game as a CB. His best season he played as a drop 3? I don't know what you would call it, but his second season when he dropped back to CB from the CM position and Dembele ran the middle. It formed that back three and he played on the right side of the 3. I think that might have been the year we had our best defensive record.

In midfield Dembele made Dier look good

I know he has been injured but I feel he has been poor for a couple of years now

Both Dier and Dele have gone off the boil imo, just haven't kicked on like they should have. It can happen with young players but next season both need to improve big time

Totally agree on both Dier and Alli.

Sadly, I think it's a case of both believing their hype and focusing more efforts on their 'brand' and social image than their game. Alli especially had the world at his feet. Yes, he's been injured, but he seems to have lost so much of what made him one of the most exciting players in Europe. Dier is a lost cause but I do have some hope that after a proper pre-season (hopefully injury free), and being played behind the striker, Alli will recapture his form and ability.

Not sure I agree.

It's becoming clear that Dier's best position may be CB (possibly an Alderweireld replacement)

Dele's best position is just off Kane. Sticking him out on the left midfield just exposes his lack of pace (injury?) His reluctance to lose possession rather than taking a chance, inevitably results in a sideways or backwards pass to Eriksen, Rose etc.

Our chronic injury situation and lack of squad depth has resulted in playing players out of position (Rose in midfield, Lucas as a 9, Davies at CB, Foyth at RB to name a few).

It takes time to 'learn' a new position, especially if you're used to playing in another. Unlike others, I don't particularly want 'utility' players who will do an OK job in a number of positions. I want specialists who excel at their position. The manager then stirs the pot with these specialists to create the team.

I do agree that all of them need a long spell on the beach.

Personally I feel that the fans negative treatment of Dier is unwarranted. The manager fucking picks him there and he does great when the rest of the team is supporting him and he is fit. Same with a lot of players really. How about the fact that Poch can't organise his players into a formation that works, and the fact that he managed to get us 86 points with the same or worse squad two years ago. The team used to be able to win by six or seven away from home and carry any players. Was Dier shit then? Yeah, yeah, whatever...
