Oh god, I don’t like being right about how illsuited some players are for their position, as that would be happy about a negative, but it’s hard not being a little pleased at the changing of the tides.
He was never a midfielder and should have never been seen as an option. Wasted 4 years on bringing in a competent midfielder in his place.
Teams have just figured him out. Make him nervous from the jump and he will continue to make idiotic mistakes. That’s offensively and defensively. Too many times today, he was caught rushing at a player that was already being covered by Dembele and with a simple one, two pass, the midfield duo was bypassed.
It’s time for him to be benched for good.

How is Dier not getting hate on the game-winning corner? His man was the guy that won the first header. Hands on his knees until the runup and then just completely loses his man and can't read the flight of the ball. Only if he could point at the ball...

Look at his body language from start to finish - he'd given up before the corner was even taken. He was openly signalling his fatigue to the opponents.
Looking at that, if Aurier followed his man the goal doesn't happen.
Someone has a bad couple games and suddenly "he was never a midfielder", let's just ignore all of last season when he was excellent and all of the 15/16 season. Pretty sure he was playing in midfield both of those seasons, fuck off with this hyperbole nonsense.

This is the point. Son has been away with his National side, so he hasn’t had a break at all- he’s going to need one at some stage, but isn’t looking likely with S Korea’s schedule and ours.
Dele has picked up an injury (being tired is often said to be a contributing factor as far as collecting knocks is concerned) & everyone else seems to be stuck in/coming out of a coma. Lamela & Lucas have looked great, and have had full pre seasons. The lads need to wake the fuck up and get into the groove before this place goes into full meltdown.

Excellent last season?
He was average most of last season, he doesn't offer much as a midfielder other than being a pivot point who mostly passes backwards.
Dier can play the anchor man/half-back role, and that is about it.
I thought he did alright in that role against Inter though, aside from the first 15 minutes and completely losing his man for the knock-on to the winner. Obviously that is not good enough, but he was close to acceptable.
I still don't think he is drop-able with our CM injury/form woes, and not sell-able with our homegrown woes.
Would be nice if we had better, but we've no other real options right now.
