This is a player who was playing centre back in a Europa League final at 20 years old and starting for his country at a World Cup at 21.

I think he can absolutely be top drawer and really he has two of the best to have learned from over the last few seasons.

I'll judge him fully when he's had a consistent centre back partner and run of games and not playing alongside someone different every single game.

Cant stress how important competent central midfielders are too.

The longest run of games Davinson has been able to get in the league this season is 4. Its very difficult to judge him based on a very stop start campaign. He's still young enough to qualify for our u23 team so he has plenty he can learn but when your not getting a consistent run of games, it can be hard to find your rhythm. He is still getting used to this league as well people need to remember.
 
If fit and we are playing a back 4, then we should play our top 2 CB's which are Alderweireld and Vertonghen. Now I know Toby made a mistake leading to a goal recently but that should not have been the reason he did not even make the squad or was it that contract again and Poch wanted to play the CB's likely to be played next year. Whatever the reason the decision was wrong, Toby and Aurier should have played as they did not need to be rested as we have no matches coming up.

Our strongest defence is Rose Vertonghen Alderweireld Aurier as far as I'm concerned based on what it gives us at both ends of the field. I wonder how many times that's actually been used together in the league this season & last

If fit and healthy I'd start that all day long.

KWP - Foyth - Alderweireld - Rose, a defence consisting of our 3rd choice RB & 4th choice CB has actually played more than our strongest 4 at the back together.

Add to that half a season with no genuine DM with Vic & Eric being out for at least half of it and it's clear to see how disjointed our defensive issues seem

It's not like we couldnt do the same. They have had just as many injuries as we have had if not more in defence. Literally all their central defenders were out two weeks ago and I don't think they've had more than three available at any one time.

Problem is that Poch rotates when there's literally no need to. Tony and Jan get dropped for no reason time and time again and its getting costly

You think Toby has performed?? He's been poor all season, but because he makes less glaring errors he's incredible. His inability to jump, reluctance to attack a ball and reliance on backing away from the attacker hoping they go on the outside is getting very tiring.

I think he's performed better than last season on the basis that he missed half of last season and performed awfully upon return.

He's been our best defender by a mile this season as shown whenever we decide to 'rest' him.

Our best defender is a bit of a misleading title.

Anyway, we conceded 4 goals against Burnley and Chelsea and he was either directly at fault or poor for 3 of them. There's been plenty of others too, but we can't slag him because of who he WAS.

He needs improving on. Put it like this, if he did go to Man Ure, I've no worries that we have attackers who would get the better of him. Sonny would have him easily.

He's been at fault for as many goals as Jan or Dav has.

It's just his errors have been less glaring. When Dav or Jan fuck up, they do it in style.
