Why would an owner only interested in profit develop a new training ground?

Because a world class training ground allows for us to give facilities to youth players that will save money on transfers in the long term and allow for our current talent to remain fitter for longer.

Do you really believe Daniel Levy loves this club like a fan? You can’t honestly believe that surely? Do you think he built the training ground and stadium because he loves the club?

ENIC are an investment group, they are here to make money, the whole reason the stadium was built, the NFL was brought in and all the builds that have happened was with profit in mind, that’s it, the sooner people realise it the better, leave the romance at the door.

Right, so that results in having a good team then.

Why would an owner only interested in profit do that?

Because having a good team means consistent revenue from champions league football and TV money, it’s really not difficult to figure it out.

Save money on transfers + have consistent development from inside the club using facilities we own whilst maintaining a consistent level = profit.

There is a reason Levy went for Poch, he is an easy breezy manager that looks at youth first rather than transfers.

Levy is happy as long as we are making profit, trophies and love of the club have nothing to do with his or ENIC’s vision for spurs.

That's open to opinion mate. Personally I do believe the owners want success and that we cannot judge how far we have come for a couple more seasons when we are settled back at WHL.

The club has invested heavily in signings before the fees dried up a few years ago coinciding with the stadium build. Since Poch took over, to date we've only had to sell one player to a bigger club when Walker wanted out. Take that into consideration when you see the ins and outs over at the Emirates since Ashburton Grove project got into motion in 2000 where the likes of Vieria, Henry, Van Persia, Petit, Overmars, Anelka, Nasri, Sagna, Adebayor, Hleb, Song all got sold to bigger clubs at the time.

I use Woolwich as a prime example purely because they are the only club who have built a stadium in similar stature to ours. Since they paid off their stadium they have signed £40m defenders, £40m midfielders, have a strike force that cost £110m and retain their players easier than they used to.

It's all speculative as to what Levy & ENICs intentions are but with football money ballooning up at a rate never seen before (Andre Grey cost Watford the same based on inflation that Maradona cost Napoli etc) it's both a positive and negative time for the club and its finances. Liverpool, Man U, City etc had their larger infrastructure in place, we had to rip ours up and start all over again. If we keep our heads above water for another couple of years we will have done remarkably well given our temporary disadvantages

In a real business, this woudlnt work. Customers wouldnt pay top prices for 3rd (or wherever we may end up) best product. If Tesco cola was more expensive than Coca Cola and Pepsi , no one would ever buy Tesco Cola.

But football clubs are more like cult or religion for most fans rather than a medium of entertainment. Ripping off followers in a cult is simple as most follow and buy no matter what.

No matter how hard people try to shoehorn such analogies into this scenario, they still come up with cobblers.

If what you describe IS fitting then why not just bugger off and buy a different product? ...If that's indeed how football fandom actually works?

Again. It isn't.... And again, you KNOW this.

I just said football isnt like that. Please read before responding.

So footballing success = financial/commercial success?!

Sounds like the owners objectives are fairly aligned with the fans

Fans don't think footballing success means just being happy qualifying for the champions league every year.

That's the issue, Levy and ENIC are happy as long as they are making profit, trophies are secondary and that's what fans want ultimately.

You are making a lot of assumptions there, unless you've actually heard them say that?

And in any case - winning trophies would lead to more fans, more sponsorship, more profit, etc.

The wealthiest teams in the world are the ones who have won the most trophies....

Have they paid off their stadium....their books show a £200m debt.

Why don't they take dividends, do you think?

Note: Ossie Wembley is source of information about dividends, although I've seen a couple of articles suggesting the same

I ain't sure about the finances of their club or ours mate but if they do still have a £200m debt after opening 13 years ago it should show our supporters what we can expect over the next 5-15 years.

A £1bn debt where £50m is paid back each summer leaves us with one less quality signing than the others all around us in theory for 20 years. Can people see why when we aren't 100% sure about a player it's a far greater risk to us than it is to the Liverpools, Chelsea's or Man United's of this world? We have a smaller fan base meaning smaller revenue streams, larger debts meaning less cash flow regardless of fan base sizes and a long period to chip away at whilst the others can blow their load more freely. Back Poch & Levy, they've given us our most competitive Spurs team in decades all whilst trying to build a better future for us on and off the field.

Back the club and genuinely don't give a fuck about what any Liverpool, Woolwich or West Ham fan says or sniggers at you in the future as I guarantee we will go backwards before taking steps forward as we have a fair old way to go until we can get over this final and important hurdle.

We are at huge disadvantage every summer for a while yet, why don't we just get back to enjoying supporting the club instead of moaning about teams that are in far healthier and better financial states creeping up on us and potentially overtaking us? We've invested in the nuts and bolts of it all, it was the only practical thing to do for the club to move forward
