There is no set, published criteria..... That's the problem.

Case by case basis blah.....

Whatever went on in that EPL meeting with the clubs a few weeks ago served to muddy the rules and leave the back door open fore injuries etc However, even before then there was no threshold for covid cases being declared not instances being quantifies other than 'bad outbreak'.
No talk of injuries or players being in Africa in this

If you take out their 1 Covid case their reasoning for postponing the match is due to injuries , suspensions or players bring at the Africa cup . I doubt that’s happened before

Indeed....

......But comments like "Each application is considered on its merits" and a couple of others has left the proverbial back door open so that the EPL can work in concerns from other rules (such as ones about minimum squad numbers etc) at their convenience.

Obv. it stinks.

The Manchester Islington Guardian says that the match has been called off due to "COVID and other issues".

Cunts

I think they have around 34 in their squad .
Wolves yesterday called players on loan back , had 2 keepers on their bench .

Woollich could have easily got a squad together for the game even if it included some of the U23 squad

Apparently 21 isn't old enough unless they're Messi-reborn or something.

Wrong. The sentence “on its merits” relates to the facts that are presented in the application, not to the rules that are applied to the application.

So, no… The Premier League can not apply other rules to an application, because they assess an application “on its merits”.

As so many times before, you are blowing smoke out the behind.

Right, so if pressed, a combination of "their discretion" + the vague outline of both Covid & general squad absentee regulations won't be the path they take to justify their decisions.....?

Perhaps you expect them to just say "Nah, we're just fucking with Spurs; nothing to see here".

Smoke.Arse.Whatever. 🙄

Assessing an application “on its merits” has nothing to do with the rules applied. Get that through your head.

Postponement rules pre-COVID are not difficult to understand nor vague.

Post-COVID guidelines have been applied that are more vague but only relates to COVID, although injuries can be included in the assessment as well.

Therefore, it was unwarranted in any rules to include AFCON and suspensions.

If you cannot field a team, you lose. You don’t get a postponement, unless the conditions for postponement are met. Which they weren’t.
