How can you be good enough to win the EL and then fail to qualify from the group stage of the CL two years in a row?
In some ways it was the perfect strategy. For a team like Sevilla not guaranteed to make itfrom the league getting CL group stage money every year but dropping and winning the EL was exactly what you want.

Exactly, winning three trophies in a row sounds great but when you realize the circumstances that involves winning the Europa 3x in a row, it’s not very impressive at all.

I hate to quote Jose but Emery’s another ‘special specialist in failure’. He’s a perfect fit for the club and manager he took after.
