Like Redknapp didn't moan every fucking window about needing to spend more money to compete, despite having a team that included Walker, Dallas, King, Rose, Parker, Modric, Bale, VDV, Adebayor....

Easy for him to say it now. Like he wouldn't have have been banging Levy's door down telling him Sissoko and Aurier aren't good enough for CL or that "he needs to spend 40m on Batshuayi.

You could very easily make a case that the first XI in the Redknapp days was better then ours now. Just the issue was the bench was shite, and that's what always holds us back.

And it's a big reason why we can't find anyone to improve us we can't pay what Chelsea and City do for player to be happy to sit on the bench

There's an element of truth in that, but you don't have to spend fortunes on you bench if you are prepared to be creative with your scouting and coaching, something Redknapp wasn't.

It's been proven with the likes of Guendouzi, Brooks, our own Del boy & in recent years Mahrez, Kante can be added to that mix. Very difficult to keep finding them under the radar though.

Redknapp never really had a great scouting network. Off the top of my head I can't think of a real standout player he spotted before others did but I haven't really given it much thought. Invest in grass roots, get a world class and well respected academy and focus on the cream under 20 years of age for a sustainable business model whilst we transition and pay off the investments required in recent years

Whilst 'spotting' the emerging talent is no doubt a skill, it's also, in these days of the Internet and YouTube, a very small world. Any 12/13/14/15/16/17/18 year old who appears on the radar cannot be kept a secret. If one big club comes knocking then only a very stupid parent, or very dumb agent, would not speak to all the other possible buyers. You'd be foolish not to try and get the best deal possible, because even when 'spotted' at a young age the chances are you won't make it to the EPL show ... there are 1,000's of great youngsters, only a handful ever go on to become great players.

So when a new talent is unearthed then today everybody knows, so how does a youngster decide? Money so who pays you the most in wages, provides a nice house, family compensation, etc? ... or do you join the club you support? or do you join the really big name Utd, Barca, Liverpool? or do you go with the best training facilities? or the best youth coaches? or the manager most likely to play you? ... there are these and lot's more factors that can sway a family.

Bottom line the biggest names, with the best facilities, and the most money get first dibs ... it's only the ones they miss that sign up for small clubs and become 'bargains' later on, and these are fast becoming as rare as rockin' horse shite ...

When Redknapp was boss we weren't a big club, not results wise anyway, we didn't have the Enfield training centre, we had a manager who hardly ever developed players, and we didn't really have a pot to piss in ... not ideal for attracting the best young talent.

Spurs under Poch have a whole lot more going for us, and that's why we now attract some of the best. Chances are many parents will still probably choose the super clubs first Utd, Barca, City, Dippers, but at least we are now in with a decent shout, and very probably the number one academy of choice for London ...

Take our interest in Gavin Bazunu as an example. The big clubs have got wise to it and to safeguard themselves are hoovering up all of the talent, flogging them and doing a Real Madrid or Barcelona by adding a buy back option or ridiculous selling % to the prospect for their troubles.

I admire Spurs for having a stringent business model that doesn't see us loan, doesn't see us bow to buy back clauses or selling on %s that see the likes of Dortmund grab excellent talent as it will see us hit a glass ceiling when those players get offers etc. Yes Dortmund will get a huge fee for Sancho but chances are they'll have to sell and give City a huge chunk as well of it isn't City that buy him back. The same applies to Hakimi who looks a real proespect but after this season will go back to Real Madrid. You get a great player but ultimately you're developing them for other clubs who can throw a bit of money about.

Our model is focused on being a big club that grows itself etc but we need to let it mature, get the reputation our progress warrants etc. That only comes with time and investing effort into the right avenues. We've only been back in the Champions League for a few seasons now, our name is only just becoming one that's thought well of internationally and across Europe so now we need to focus on solidifying that reputation, growing it further and doing so incrementally. Long term focus grows our market share, grows our fanbase, our respectability and our chances far more than chucking money at a couple of £50m hit or miss signings. Too risky, not sustainable and wouldn't tie into the clubs growth off the field which in turn would see us come to struggle growing it on the field.

Growth of grassroots, academy, finance, marketing of the club, fan base etc all goes hand in hand with the long term on field growth needed at the club, all will take time

Which time zone did you type that in?

Mr. Pochettino (giving the man the proper respect) has been doing the best possible job with the resources he as at his disposal but the test will be how/ if he can outsmart Klopp and Pep G when we play those teams next which also may be deciding factors in this title race which we’re not expected to win. He was outsmarted by Solskjaer no mistake and those two upcoming matches will show just how great he really is. Can he be the master tactician and gambler? On occasion yes but when it really matters?

He wasn't outsmarted by Solskjaer I don't believe. Personally I think that game 9/10 we win they had a smash and grab mentality and got away with it with a mixture of poor finishing & top class goalkeeping. I think we had more shots on target in that 2nd half than any team has managed this season in a whole game.

Those two games at Liverpool & City could prove huge, at the same time they could be dead games if we don't focus on the games beforehand. Personally I think the game at Stamford Bridge will be very telling as to where we focus our genuine targets for the rest of the campaign

We dont want players who are quite happy to sit on the bench, they are only for themselves and would not fit in at Spurs!

That dele miss still haunting me

Can't blame god awful finishing on Poch

He set us up well, we created chances, we just kept firing them straight at the poxy keeper

He was outsmarted by Solskjaer no mistake ....... ?

That’s games a representation of being outsmarted in your opinion???
:dembelelol::dembelelol::dembelelol::dembelelol:

61% possession v39
21 shots v13
11 on target. v8
0 goals. v1
7 corners v4

That’s not being outsmarted - that’s your players letting you down in the final 3rd. We created very very good chances. Shit happens.

So United got lucky, they didn’t win the game tactically- unlike the semi final last season where they killed the game dead.

Did you watch the game? We ripped them apart at times. 5-1 wouldn’t have been unfair based on second half performance.

Laughable comment.

Maybe go and watch the game again.

Why are you including the dippers in your "super clubs" category?

Rofl.

He may have been unlucky vs. Solskjaer but then it doesn't explain all the other times we have dominated possession and been the better team aesthetically and still lost a big game of football.

I love Poch but the man had a point. How would he set up vs. Klopp or Guardiola in a title race away from home? I would hope to God it would be on the counter but I fear not.

Didn't Redknapps scouting team consist of football connoisseurs such as Dim Sherwood, Les Ferdinand etc, who gave him sound as a rock reports such as the one telling him not to sign Luis Suarez for 17 million when we were looking for a striker because his play style was too similar to Rafas?
Seriously the fact that we employed those halfwits for so many years still leaves a sickly feeling in my stomach to this day.
