Overrated: Luka Modric

I’m not having that Luka Modric is irreplaceable, world class or even our best – or most influential player. He is OF COURSE an outstanding footballer – but when the Croatian and Tottenham Hotspur finally part company this summer – I think it will be with a sense of what could of been. Luka’s a player – so able. He runs games and sets the tempo – a drop of a shoulder or a little step over – its gorgeous – truly gorgeous….did I say I had an issue?…I have – honest! – he just doesn’t do it enough, he... AVB – Why he would be good for Spurs

Everyone has heard the rumours about Andre Villas-Boas, and his link to White Hart Lane. After reading a few forums, I have noticed that the general view is that he is either too young or not good enough for the Yid Army. Sure, his reign at Stamford Bridge wasn’t the best, but should we really overlook a potentially great manager, based on nine months at a club who offered very little support to the Portuguese manager? Personally, I think he would be an excellent choice, especially if Tim Sherwood is appointed Director of Football. Sherwood, having worked with our Youth... Read more »

AVB – Afraid Be Very?

The Spanish Press are reporting that it’s a done deal. So is it a good deal? Now, like everybody who has never played the beautiful game professionally, I know nothing about football (according to Tim Sherwood), so I won’t nail my colours to AVB’s mast; maybe he got it wrong at Chelski because of the players or the owners, but then again maybe he got it wrong because he is not a very good manager and his management techniques are divisive. This is what a leadership consultant who worked at Chelsea under Ancelotti and then AVB told me last week:... Read more »

Are Spurs About to be Sold?

Ever since the Tottenham Hotspur PLC delisted itself from the stock market rumours that the club was preparing itself to be sold have grown stronger and stronger. Logistically everything is slowly falling in to place, with much of the land for rebuilding a new stadium already purchased by the club, and planning permission for a new stadium having got the green light. Most people quite rightly assumed that Joe Lewis would sell Spurs once the new stadium had been built, with the increased revenue from higher match day attendances making the books look more appealing to any potential investor. This... Read more »

Dear New Manager

Dear New Manager of Tottenham Hotspur, I’m just writing to say hello and welcome from the Spurs faithful. I have no idea who you are, if you are Portuguese, French or even Scottish, someone may need to translate this for you. Spurs are a club with a fine, rich and deep history rooted in success, great football and legendary players, read up on us, understand our history on the pitch and our fans. The weight of expectation is upon you to build on this legacy, make us stronger, play the best team you can from the squad you have and... Read more »

Who will AVB Here?

Long before the talk of AVB, Blanc and Moyes, whilst Harry Redknapp was still our self-serving leader, I wrote about the players on the fringes of the Tottenham squad – Tottenham and the Missing £40M – and how they may, finally, be moved on this summer. Between wages and transfer income there is a possible £40M to be gained from selling much of the clubs waifs and strays to help bolster the transfer kitty. Since i wrote this article Redknapp has left and these is now the need for much needed funds to provide a warchest for the next heir... Read more »

Dear Luka Modric

I’m not quite sure why it is that I’m writing to you. You could call it a goodbye letter, I suppose. Although I still haven’t got my head around the concept of seeing you leave, adorning another team’s colours… I’m not angry at you for wanting to leave my beloved Tottenham. It’s been getting gradually more obvious that you’re out of our league: us the swashbuckling, romantic nearly-men; you the ingenious, graceful Croatian. We were good together for the first few years, you can’t deny that, but it has now become clear that we were never going to be long-term... Read more »

Life, Death & Tottenham Hotspur

When Fabrice Muamba fell to the White Hart Lane pitch there were a few who perhaps felt it resonate more than most. A young man struck down without warning, bringing unwelcome thoughts of the passing of a friend, and a reminder that death is not a curse on only the elderly or sick. In an increasingly cynical age, when grief is treated as a weakness and the internet is overburdened by angry ignorance intent on disgusting the decent, when any expression of grief as likely to meet condescension as condolences, those minutes and the following days also reminded us that...
