Spurs fans can breathe a sigh of relief following recent speculation that Mauricio Pochettino could be moving to take over the vacant managers job at Real Madrid.

The position at the Santiago Bernabéu was freed up after the recent shock resignation of Zinedine Zidane. It came just hours after Real Madrid had secured their third successive Champions League success.

Mauricio Pochettino was one of the names put forward immediately, as a potential replacement for the Frenchman. However, according to an article in the Mail Online, Pochettino was quick to turn down what the paper described as an offer to all intents and purposes to take over the slot.

If it is true, it will not be that the Argentinian simply doesn’t want the job. It is widely believed that it would fulfil his footballing dream. But Mauricio Pochettino is a man of both principle and serious loyalty, and it is thought that to have accepted the position would have severely damaged this image; especially given the fact that he has just signed a new contract to stay on as manager at White Hart Lane.

As Darren Anderton said in a recent interview, Daniel Levy, the chairman of Tottenham is 100% behind Pochettino, and it is rumoured that will rubber stamp incoming transfers up to the value of £150-million. It means the manager can begin planning his squad improvement for next season with confidence.

At the recent launch of the Spanish version of Mauricio Pochettino’s recently published book, Brave New World, Tottenham’s manager addressed the rampant speculation that he would be the new boss of Los Blancos. His comments can be summed up as follows:

He made mention of the fact that a link with the Real Madrid vacancy is normal and something that he views in all normality. He went on to say how committed he was to Tottenham Hotspur and the fact that he has just signed a new five-year contract.

He said that he was content in his current job and that he was happy to be at the launch discussing the Spanish publication of his book. Remarked wryly that he was ready to take lunch and not take- over Champions’ League champions.

He commented on the fact that that he was excited to be going back to London to continue with what he refers to as an exciting project. He also made mention of the fact that the most important thing right now was the new release of his book – a book that contains deep insights into Spurs’2016/2017 season plus details of personal conversations with players and staff members.

He repeated that he understood why rumours abound following Zidane’s step-down but that that is life and he is content with the new contract he has signed. Being an honest individual, he did say that he doesn’t know what will happen on the morrow, but that football is football, and it is a world of its own that those involved with dance to its tune.

He finalised his comments on the subject by saying that the key thing in life is to enjoy each single day. He closed by remarking we should celebrate life and not ponder on what may happen tomorrow.

For the moment at least, Spurs’ fans can rest easy.
