Tottenham Hotspur are packing up their bags and boots over the last few games of the season and the fans are saying thank you and goodbye, in order to prepare themselves for a move to Wembley while their stadium undergoes a full extension and renovation. White Hart Lane may be no more as of the end of the season, but the new White Hart Lane could provide a whole new football experience for Spurs fans around the world. There’s nothing more exciting than a brand new stadium development and with the money Spurs are putting into the stadium, it’ll be interesting to see all of the new technologies that will be implemented. One of the biggest technological revelations is the Bitcoin, and it has been dominating the headlines in recent months due to its huge hike in value. We’re taking a look at whether the Bitcoin could be used in the new White Hart Lane and if so, where.

Restaurants & Bars

Payments in restaurants and bars at the stadium will need to be smooth, and there are a number of ways that this could be improved. Cashless payment is one of the quickest ways to do this, but despite an entire cashless payment system having been trialled at Download Festival in 2015, it failed phenomenally meaning the transition to an entirely cashless system for the new stadium is unlikely to be an option. Nevertheless, people are turning to the future of currency as a way to save time, save merchant fees, and allow for direct and easy payments. The San Jose Earthquakes already use the Bitcoin for in-stadium purchases and we could see Tottenham following in their footsteps.

In-Stadium Betting Lounge

One of the concepts that could get fans going crazy with anticipation is the prospect of an in-stadium betting lounge. While this will have to be strictly monitored in order to ensure no under-18s are entering the lounge, this is something that could catch on quite quickly if it was ever to be implemented. This could be a part of the VIP package, where those who choose hospitality, or season ticket holders are allowed to access, and place bets on the game they are about to watch. In order to make this even more of an accessible thing, Bitcoins could be implemented into the systems in order to increase the opportunities for expansion.

Bitcoin is set to be the future of currency and it is already used regularly online with Bitcoin sportsbooks, so it would make perfect sense for it to be implemented in the brand new stadium. There are a number of regulations and compliance issues that the developers would have to get around in order to develop this kind of betting lounge, but has a lot of potential if it was to ever take off.

Buying Tickets

Another way Bitcoin could be used as part of the stadium renovation and its embracement of modern technology could be by adding it as a payment option when people are buying season tickets and regular match tickets online. While options such as credit card, debit card, PayPal and other payment methods are available, the Bitcoin has yet to be implemented for football purchases.

Nevertheless this could be an extremely interesting way for the Bitcoin to be integrated as part of the new stadium build. The stadium build will be wanting to express a whole new Tottenham, and as part of this, an acceptance of the Bitcoin and usage for a variety of purchases such as tickets, merchandise, food and drink and much more, could offer a new way for Spurs to revolutionise the football club.

Will Football Be The Next Big Step For Bitcoin?

Bitcoin is already dominating a number of industries, in particular the online casino industry, and is becoming accepted in a number of countries around the world. Football could provide an entire new gateway for the Bitcoin to develop and be accepted in a huge number of countries, to really make its mark as the future of currency. New stadium redevelopments and builds like the new White Hart Lane could become a leader for influencing this kind of development for the crypto currency. With the future of Tottenham’s stadium somewhat more in the light, it’ll be interesting to see what kinds of technology the new White Hart Lane will be implementing and how this will benefit the fans.
