Just watched this last night. Season 97/98 review
A few things struck me:
We were even more shit than I remembered. And I was at all the home games. Some absolutely diabolical results that I had forgotten about. Every time a new match pops up I was completely stunned we'd lost or drawn some of them. 4-0 away to Coventry for god sake.
Our squad balance was really odd.
Most goals we conceded you can find Sol Campbell wildly out of position sprinting to try and cover the goalscorer. In fact our entire defence was a complete shambles.
Paul Mahorn actually scored a goal for us
Did Ian Walker ever actually make a save? Or even look bothered
Christian Gross was even more embarrassing than I recalled. I can't believe any part of me ever thought he was going to be our answer to Wenger
Pretty sure Ramon Vega outscored Les Ferdinand that season.
We only guaranteed safety in the penultimate match vs Wimbledon and drew our final game. Yet somehow we finished as high as 14th.
Dark dark days. Anyone that moans about us this season needs to be made to watch every tortuous minute of this video.
