him and George Best, flawed geniuses (in sport)
mind you - Bestie did come across as a guy with an ounce or 2 of brains - not something you would really say about gazza
Saying that, surely the FA should be providing some kind of treatment/help for him?? I think they should have stepped in to help a long time ago
I have to say I would be very surprised if there was not something in place (Tony Adams Foundation) that is not been developed and funded by The FA for Gascoinge and alike. I (indirectly) know a little bit about his illness and I know this may sound harsh, but the first thing is, the individual has to really want to stop drinking. And I,m sure on the occasions he has had treatment(s) he has been true in his desire for this. But unfortunately for Gazza, it seems the will of this disease is stronger than his.

Gazza had too many hangers on. Apparently, the life & soul of any party. He took poor advice from people & spent fortunes on those hangers on. Where the fuck are they all now? It is a lesson in naivety, having too much too young, being unable to cope with fame & having nobody to tell him he was spunking his life away when his problems started coming to the surface. He was treated with kid gloves -"oh it's Gazza. He's just err Gazza." Someone should have kicked him up the arse when he was all over the papers getting pissed back when he had a career. I love the bloke & it's tragic to see.

...what, you mean like;

Who cares. He played for us once. He's been an alcoholic for years now, drinking his life away when he had the world at his feet. He has 3 kids (two adopted). Give a fuck if he was a footballer, he's had numerous chances and fucks it up every time. Poor excuse for a (ex)husband and father.

Doesn't deserve the air time.

People die of worse shit all the time that is out of their hands.

He would've got far better guidance if he'd went to man u under Fergie. By the looks of them pictures he's got one foot in the grave already.

Millbanks Millbanks I don't think you quite understand how addiction works..
He drinks a shit load of alcohol and can't help himself? Yada yada yada. Rehab, relapse, rehab, relapse, rehab, relapse. How many times can one bloke be shown sympathy?

Poor ol' Gazza - drinking himself to death. No no, wait - the Vodka poured itself into his mouth!

I do not mean to come across as a cunt, this is just my opinion, but I do not hold sympathy for people like this. Same as those that get cancer when they smoke all their lives. Obesity is a disease nowadays. Everything is a disease or illness.

Don't buy it I'm afraid. Others will tell me different I'm sure.

I wont,.. I actually agree with you regarding gazza... ran out of sympathy many moons ago.

living in England and being a raging alky must be hard tbf as the drinking culture their is huge

he'd have a far better chance at getting his shit together if he moved somewhere that getting hammered at the pub wasn't the main form of socializing

looking at him now i honestly wish he had of gone to united

he'd of probably had a far better career and not turned into the train wreck that he is now under Fergies guidance

He has worn the shirt of the team we support, with honor: I think a bit of respect and sympathy is called for!

That only goes so far. He is a legend and was an idol but he's had more chances than alot of people far more deserving and fucked them all up. Looks like he's on alot more than just the drink to judging by them pictures.

I thought he played for us loads more than once!
ohhhhhh, you mean....

it's such a tough one... of course much of the sympathy is now running thin, and yes, people die of much worse... and in far more tragic circumstances, i've been related to several of them!

it's just that paul gascoigne's entire career/life has been playing out in the public eye ever since a chubby geordie kid got his nut-sack almost destroyed by vinnie jones... and then down to tottenham, and the lure of london... ah, maybe that's where the damage really started, eh?
...but ultimately, he provided many of us on here with arguably some of the finest moments supporting spurs...
"is gascoigne going to have a crack... he is you know... oh i say!!!"
...for that, i am forever grateful.
however, he really is an ill man, and we can't judge how these addictions and afflictions would affect any of us. whether it's 'just' the alcoholism, or the depression, or a combination of the two, i think we all know that the 'breaking news' is gonna happen very soon if he doesn't sort this out... actually, it's probably gonna happen very soon even if he does sort it out... it's gone that far now.

One of the worst posts ever seen on this forum. Didn't expect it from you, man.

To be fair, I think all sorts of people/organisations have tried to help him, but he cannot seem to stay off the sauce. At some point, he has to take responsibilty for his own actions. Tough love needed here I think.

I sort of agree with this....... people have to take some responsibilty for what they put into their bodies - excess food, booze, tobacco products, drugs, etc. My sympathies are more for their families and loved ones.
