Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Right, as today is our work Christmas party, and as such people are doing fuck all until we close up at 4 I thought I would consider the players seasons so far. I have also been drinking lighter fluid and watching German dungeon porn, so if any of you slags wants to take this outside....etc etc...

Half Term report:

Pochettino: The lesson in not being hasty is being learnt. The man has done something which none of our previous manager since Burkinshaw (maybe Pleat) in that he combines coaching, tactical nous and man management. Respected by the entire club, he reflects the Club in his potential to be something special.

Lloris: It is a pleasure knowing he is in goal. That is not a slight on Vorm (although I believe we’ll need a better keeper than him at the end of the season should the unthinkable occur.) Best keeper we've had since Bobby Mimms.

Walker and Rose: Combined as they are both equal measures good to bad. Competition has forced both to focus but that focus never lasts 90 minutes. I don’t dislike either at all but I do wonder if they’re the best we can get. Suited to Poch’s style without question.

Toby and Jan: Simple; best partnership since King and Woodgate. Toby is one of the most intelligent defenders I have seen, and Jan thrives of not having to be responsible for whomever is partnering him (Dawson or Fazio).

Dier: A revelation. I was massively concerned but am gladly cleaning egg off my face. He’s vital to our season.

Alli: I mentioned before that he is at least two years ahead of schedule. A manager’s dream? Yes. A supporter’s? Abso-fucking-yes. The lad is pure class, and we have to acknowledge the work done behind the scenes because he was highly sought after.

Dembele: Another player who has completed altered my perception of him. It’s like night and day from previous seasons. Strength has never been a problem, it’s his ponderous nature on the ball, and wastefulness that has irked. This season has seen those issues eradicated. Excellent.

Eriksen: I might get a little stick here but I still believe there is much more that Eriksen can do. What he has done this season is still positive but there remains the niggling feeling that he is capable of being incredible – and being very good is no bad thing I just wish he would be a little more consistent because, for natural ability, he is our stand out individual.

Lamela: An improvement, without question. He doesn’t, as the old saying go, choose how much a team is willing to pay, and it is obvious he was bought at an inflated price but Poch has been a huge source of influence, that it is his third season and we are now seeing why we bought him in 2013 is testament to his will to succeed (and for not getting sold!)

Kane: continues to be a very good player (excellent?) who, under some serious criticism/scepticism remained utterly convinced of his own capabilities. Ten goals by Christmas is not bad at all – and I would be surprised if he failed to reach 20 by the end of the season. Needs support but you suspect he would play long after the floodlights have been turned off and the doors bolted shut.

Son and N’Jie – classing them together as injury has hampered both players progress but they both have shown why they were bought, and it would be reasonable to think that next season will be exciting for both.

Davies and Trippier: Davies has shown enough to be a worthy contender for the left back role – not nearly as good as his Swansea days, but a good player exists there. Trippier has struggled to be fair. Looks out of his depth at times, which is strange as he handled last season quite comfortably. It’s fair to give him longer than a few months before judging him (Evra and Vidic are always prime examples)

It would be harsh to critique any other player as they haven’t played enough as yet.

Sound roundup that.

Most exciting thing about it is...

Bentaleb, Mason, Pritchard, Wimmer, Onomah etc. all supporting. We have a well rounded squad for once.

Backup striker needed but I think Harry might be the Terminator so...

This has been a better first half of the season than I ever expected, with more positives than negatives.
Toby, Delli and Eric Dyer have excelled and the team spirit is second to none. Yes, there have been a few hiccups along the way, but that's only to be expected with a young side that is still learning - but learning fast.

Its going well, we are a pretty solid team. Our passing could be quicker and more direct, maybe pass through teams more than around them. Still way too many passbacks to lloris though. No need for it, when we have time on the ball. Also kicking is his only weakness, so its madness to keep passing the ball back to him.

We could be more creative in the final 3rd, but we are solid. Not exactly what i would class as exciting, but solid, which if we look at where we were this time two years ago, is a nice place to be.

Winning the league isnt going to happen, 4th we have an outside chance, but i personally couldnt give a monkeys fuck about. But this side looks capable of doing something in the europa this season, also the fa cup is achievable. A cup double would be magnificent for this club

I'm not disagreeing with your entire post but our pass backs to Lloris do have a purpose. We are trying to draw out a team that wants to sit deep or keep the game compact in midfield. We have all seen how impossible it is when teams close the spaces, by moving the ball around our back four and back to the keeper we are trying to open up spaces for us to pass through, and I think we are very good at doing just that.

Completely agree about a slim chance of 4th, we are a young team that is still learning, which will translate into more draws. I am highly positive about us as even when we draw we are the better team, rather than be disappointed at this, I see it as us building something. We have an identity which is underpinned by a spirited and determined side that also play attractive football.

If you are in the bottom half of the league with the youngest team, then that counts for nothing and we would all be saying buy more experience players/lack of leader etc BUT having the youngest team in the league whilst in the mix for the top end of the table has put a massive smile on my face and a skip in my step as I can only see us getting better and turning those draws into wins, that would be my expectation next year but not this.

We have an outside chance of finishing 4th, but could win 2 trophies?

Tell me more.

We have a management team, squad and club that has so much potential in it. The signs are promising, but we've been here before, so I'm not getting too carried away. However, it is great to have a club that I feel I can really identify with again.

This season is starting to look like it could be another missed opportunity: when have Man Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool all been so sh*te in the same season? A serious goal-scoring forward is still badly needed to support Kane and give us another cutting edge that will produce goals.

Our squad has talent, our management team certainly does, but if we don't make the top 4 this year, some of our players are going to be targeted with very silly money and we could have to rebuild yet again. I still think that we have a chance, and perhaps you'd expect us to finish the season stronger whereas e.g. Man Utd and Leicester won't.

Have we?

The 'false dawn at Tottenham' is a lazy journalistic cliche that fits nicely with their other one of 'Tottenham always let you down', imo.

My sentiments exactly.
We are moving in the right direction and not too slowly.
EDIT
Yesterday was a ball ache though

Yeah, we're definitely moving in the right direction (even with yesterdays result) but the plaudits have been laid on faaar too thickly recently. We're still a very decent side but in nearly every match I've seen recently Kane has faded in the last 30 minutes. Dembele is very much our key player in midfield and when he's not there we lose 'control' too easily - he's giving us what Modric did a few seasons ago.

From being a Poch doubter after the first 5 games of the season, he's won me around quite a bit and I think we're in good shape going into the Xmas period but desperately need a quality like-for-like alternative for Kane and a rolls-royce possession orientated midfielder.
