Oh. Come on mate. You met him twice & he was nice to you. He ain't going to slag off Spurs when faced with an ambitious fan.
Yes of course you are right mate. Original post was pointing out that he was maybe not too nice a guy. Where as I was trying to show the balance.

No sorry this is not the case. Over his career Anderton played an average of 26 games a season. He played more than once with doubt over his fitness and I never once saw him give less than he was able to give. This guy gave more to Spurs than 99% of the players we will ever see in our lifetime.

United ( & I think Liverpool ) came Calling with offers and he stayed. Why does that make him non Spurs ?

A cunt like Redknapp is a stain on our club. Jamie Redkanpp never gave a flying FUCK about Spurs. He cunted the club off when young and pissed off to Liverpool and when he came back he did the square route of FUCK all, hardly even making it to the final third of the pitch.

Anderton is spot on to be pissed off when that spice boy was looked after above him. If Anderton had retired at 37 with Spurs then that would have been justice, but to suggest he spent most of 12 years in the medical center fucking the club over is an injustice.

Conpaired to Sheringham as well....fuck me one pissed off to United when they were needed most and one stayed and it was not because of Injury....go listen to the Spurs Show Anderton Podcast and hear what he says about Spurs and how he was treated and then feel bad that Levy is a wanker, not Anderton.

I genuinely don't know the state of his injuries and how poor the treatment he received at Spurs. But, it is common place even today that players are diagnosed and treated away from their clubs. Dembele goes to a geezer in Belgium. Guardiola has been referring Man Citry players to "his man" in Spain. Obviously they go with the blessing of The Club.

He is making it sound almost as if we didn't want one of our best players (and a financial asset) to play or be harmed. Again don't want to point fingers at him when I no nothing about his treatment or state of his injuries, but would have thought that it is in the clubs interest to have him fit and healthy and playing on the pitch. That's how he is coming across.

So Spurred On has teamed up with Spurs Show? Don't watch or listen to either so sorry if this is old news.

Weren't some of his seasons in the 40 odd game leagues, before the premier league downsized? In the Swindon days?

Don't forget we didn't have European football to worry about in those days and we only made it to the FA Cup semi's in 3 of his 12 seasons with us. He played in 93, 95 and missed 2001. He played in the League Cup Final in 99 and 2002. We rarely played the number of matches that we currently play since we became a regular top 6 side. I remember Anderton generally returning to fitness in time for international tournaments though, he playing in Euro 96 and WC98.

Oh dear, The Spurs Show get some decent ex-players/guests on but really cannot stand their 'West Stand Upper' supporter schtick. They're just so miserable. Teaming up with Spurred On as well surely is the worst idea since signing Chris Armstrong instead of Dennis Bergkamp.

I wonder if Anderton remembers that because we had him at the club, we didn't bother to sign that Beckham kid from our academy.

Beckham was always a United fan and always wanted to play for United. I asked the same question once of a friend of mine why also played at Ridgeway Rovers and that was the answer. He would never have joined Spurs above United.

That said he was in the Spurs youth set up but I don't think I've ever heard we opted not to sign him. He opted to go to United.

I think his dad was a huge United fan as well

Jesus wept. You really think Hoddle sees any club below Spurs ? That man gave everything he could for us as a player and a manager and I've never heard him say anything that would make me think he does not feel EXACTLY as we all do !

You want to know about an ex player who don't like us then Jamie Redkanpp is your man. Never Glen Hoddle.
I understand Hoddle is a Tottenham man, he can't fail to have an affinity with us, but what I'm saying is that it is rarely conveyed - not like Archibald, Hazard, Ardiles, Roberts - and maybe its because they haven't had the same career as him post Spurs, aren't in the limelight as much - but the likes of Carragher (all the scousers), neville, Souness, Lineker all talk fondly and in the main positively and passionately about their club. You can always tell their allegiance. I guess I'm looking for him to be a bit more partisan and less impartial. Maybe he's just not that type of guy - he was very calm and collected on the pitch.
Agree totally about Jamie Redknapp. Fuck that guy. I don't even really acknowledge him as a Spurs player. I always thought he was overated and we got him when he was fucked from injury.

I like to think of Jamie Redknapp in a similar vein to Tim Sherwood, both played for us but never truly Spurs through and through. I'd much rather forget either were associated with our club to be honest.

God, that Spurred On lot are almost as bad as Arse Fan TV. I can't watch their videos at all.

You just know they want to be our version of ArseFanTV, luckily they don't seem to have made the same in roads to getting some of our more meltier fans on. Saying that teaming up with Spurs Show will get them that platform for those types.

FWIW, I live near him and apparently he goes into a local restaurant I have been in a few times (on a road named White Hart Lane no less!). The restaurant staff weren't particularly complimentary. Make of that what you will.

Oh I know that the family Beckham were Utd fans, but I'm sure David would have taken to opportunity to turn pro with us, even if we would have only been a stepping stone to United in his mind. That's assuming if what I heard a long time ago is true, given my memory I wouldn't take any of my recollections as verbatim.

Didn't we see him as a goalkeeper? I recall him saying that

Beckham? I don't remember that one...
..should it have happened though it would have been one of the biggest cock-ups in football since Le Tissier was subbed off for Ali Dia.

Yeah. Typical thing that seemed like common knowledge, but when you search you can't find the same source again.

It was an article about him and they either spoke to one of the youth coaches or his dad, and the jist was that we (the spurs academy) didn't think he was suited to outfield, so we insisted he should train in goal - which is what influence his family's decision to take him out of our youth setup. Something along those lines, but definitely suggested we would have cocked him up anyway.

I remember listening to a radio interview with Ian Wright (yes I know I know) about ten years ago and the interviewer was trying to gear the conversation towards a David Beckham wank in, but Ian Wright came out with that he actually preferred playing with Darren Anderton. The interviewer was genuinely shocked at this but Wright explained that at the time that he thought Anderton was the best crosser in Europe. Wright felt that both were very accurate crossers of the ball but Beckham's were 'floaty' which made it difficult for the striker as they would have to generate their own power when meeting the ball, whereas Anderton's were whipped in with pace and all the striker had to do was direct the ball towards goal as the pace and power was already on the ball.

i read darren andertons book and he could have joined man utd but chose to stay at spurs.
also he explains what happened with his injuries, the treatment by the coaches and club doctor, along with interaction with alan suagr.
if what he wrote is true then he has just cause to be fuming with his treatment and bad advice/instruction.
The german specialist that saw his groin was horrified, but the club had been under great pressure from the owner to play their expensive asset, compounding the groin tear and hampering his career,
