Very canny manager, knew what buttons to press to motivate his players!
Also was a fair judge of others, as part of his final interview revealed.

Woolwich were about to beat the Forest record of 42 unbeaten league games and, although he was very generous about their style of play, he saved a barb for Arse Wenger:
"That Frenchman needs a list of all the opticians around Highbury and Islington, because he never sees 'owt when his players are being naughty on the pitch."

Football misses old Big (piss) head. Seeing some of the interviews from him, football today could do with some honest out spoken comments. Loved to have seen BC interviewed on some of today's controversial issues.

To put it into perspective can you imagine Stuart Pearce getting forest promoted then winning the league then next season. 2 European cups.

Clough was a genius

Greatest manager england never had, and we suffered because of it. Sadly the silly od buffons at the FA only wanted yes men and Cloughie would never have fitted in.

Genius of a manager and his Forest side were the best in Europe in the late 70s's , sadly the media, like today, had its tounge firmly wedged up Liverpools arse and that irked Cloughie and his players. Some things never change.

You're right of course, but why is this Liverpool bias so evident?

On a Clough binge atm...

Sorry if re-posts:

Imagine the Clough/Revie debate going on today.... :pochshock2:

Jose >>> Conte would have been entertaining... Similarly a little closer to home; AVB >>> Sherwood.

If you weren't around when Cloughie was, and watched Damned United, you would think he was an a**ehole and all players hated him.
That's why the Forest players made that Documentary about him, because they ,for the most part, loved the bloke.
We will never see his like again, of that I am sure.

One of his Forest players said something along the lines of he’d go out on the pitch and run himself into the ground for him, but if he was sitting a pub and Clough walked in he’d put his pint down and walk straight out.
Not sure who it was, read it in one of the books in Clough that were all pretty interesting.
I think he was a bit complex and unpredictable but what he did at Forest and Derby to a lesser extent was pretty amazing.
The amount of players he moulded or made into something when they had struggled elsewhere was incredible, matched only by most of these same players leaving Forest and flopping at other clubs without their mentor.
I think at times he enjoyed playing the pantomime villain but he really was a bit of a genius in the managerial stakes.

Really good read.

Woan only went to Forest from Runcorn (!) because Clough saw his imminent move to Redknapp's Bournemouth pop up on teletext (kids, ask your parents). Apparently Clough didn't even know who he was.

Maybe other managers rated H ability to spot a player. I recall we only got Carrick because we hijacked his move to Pompey.
