My first game

Your first time is always special, or at least memorable one way or another. Up there with that first beer, shave or touch of a female or male form is your first visit to White Hart Lane. Alex, 19, remembers his first time at the Lane.

The first match that I attended at White Hart Lane was in 2013, a pre-season friendly against La Liga side Espanyol which was the first home game for the 2013-14 season.

Tottenham-Hotspur-v-Espanyol-Pre-Season-Friendly-2149715I have been following Spurs for as long as I can remember as it is in the family; my Dad is a lifelong supporter. However, it is famously difficult to obtain Premier League tickets, especially at White Hart Lane so I decided my best opportunity to actually see Spurs in action at home was at a pre-season game.

As the day approached, my excitement grew as I was finally going to be able to my beloved Spurs at the Lane. The game, I admit, had no real significance. Nonetheless, I was still pumped to see my first game at White Hart Lane and as always to wish for a Spurs victory.

When the day finally came I arrived with my friend at the Lane with plenty of time to spare and kitted out in the new shirt for the season. As we entered the stadium, my excitement grew even more.

The teams were being announced and we were all hoping to see Gareth Bale make an appearance, despite being in the midst of his transfer-saga to Real Madrid, unbeknown to the fans however, he had already made his last appearance in a Spurs shirt earlier in the summer against Swindon.

Nevertheless, we were in the middle of one of our most exciting summer transfer windows. Three of our summer signings: Nacer Chadli, Paulinho and Roberto Soldado were all expected to play in their first match at White Hart Lane so the fans in the stadium did not relinquish excitement.

On top of this we had the long awaited return of Sandro and Younes Kaboul were named in the match day squad and both were expected to make an appearance. The atmosphere in the stadium was full of enthusiasm, as we were all excited to see our new team play for the first time this season at White Hart Lane.

The game itself however, was unexceptional. A 1-1 draw, though Soldado did score on his home debut off the spot. All of us hoped this would be the first of many to come.

[linequote]Second half appearances from the returning Kaboul and the ‘Beast’ Sandro did liven up the crowd[/linequote]

Second half appearances from the returning Kaboul and the “Beast” Sandro did liven up the crowd, however as expected from a pre-season friendly, neither team pushed themselves to secure the win too hardly.

Aside from the pretty uninteresting game, I really enjoyed my first match at White Hart Lane. The cries of “Come on you Spurs!” from the crowd gave me goosebumps and just being in the stadium provoked so many great memories from following my beloved Spurs.

I plan to attend more matches this season and maybe one day, I’ll be lucky enough to get a season ticket.
