Save the Antwerp Arms

30 second read
by Chris Lane
Chris Lane, Secretary of the Antwerp Arms Association, appeals for help to save Tottenham's oldest working public house

The Antwerp Arms pub has been in Church Road in Tottenham since around c1840. It’s probably true to say that the pub has been selling beer before and after every Spurs game since 1882. Jack Thompson who was Spurs’ first club secretary had connections with the nearby All Hallows Church, so it is likely that the pub was also used by the players pre 1882.

1701Now the Antwerp Arms faces destruction and is holding on to remain the the oldest working pub in Tottenham.
Property developers have been alerted to the fact that quiet or ‘dead’ pubs are lucrative money earners.

Currently on match days the pub is well supported. This is vital and must continue, however the Antwerp Arms Association have plans to create an active community hub, so that the pub will develop into a Tottenham destination point when Spurs are not playing.

If you do not know the area, please take a moment to visit the pub. You may be pleasantly surprised.

The Antwerp Arms Association was formed in 2013, to try and raise funding to purchase the pub from its present developer/owner. The AAA are looking to raise around £250,000 plus through a sharesave. If you want to help you can purchase a share. It costs a minimum of £50 which is 1 share, but you can buy up to a maximum of 400 shares, which costs £20,000.

Should this target not be reached, funds would be returned. However we’re confident the target can be reached by public support and Tottenham Hotspur supporters. We’re also confident that even more fans will use the pub after the proposed ground re-development.
