An open letter to Charlie Adam
Dear Charlie.
Here we are again – it’s become quite a common scenario for you, flying in with dangerous challenges against your opponents, more often than not causing them injury in the process. You need to come to terms with the fact that you have failed to make any real footballing contribution and being generous you are at best a mediocre player. You wouldn’t even get on the bench for any decent team, other than a long ball, anti-football side like Stoke. This is the broken record that is the career of Charlie Adam.
People may actually feel sorry for you, if it wasn’t for the long list of facts that make you one of the most disdain inducing players in the English game. People might not have a problem with you, if you didn’t represent a smudge on the professionalism of 99% of the players in England, who unlike you mostly take into consideration the damage they might do to another person when sliding around the pitch with their studs showing.
People might actually think you’re alright, if you weren’t so unapologetic every time you put a decent football player out of action for months at a time. Perhaps this is the only way you can be remembered, you offer so little else.

The ironic thing is that, should you ever be on the end of a tackle similar to those you so regularly dish out, you’d probably expect sympathy from the footballing community. You’d want the player in question to be punished, and people to feel bad that poor Charlie has been ruled out indefinitely by a bad tackle.
Your thuggish behaviour on-the-field has been responsible for injuring two of our key players for long periods over the past few years. One of them you done the dirty on twice, remember? So what we all want to know is what’s your problem?
Do you set out to do damage to the players around you because they’re are better than you?
If this is the case you need to up your work rate because there’s players in my local Sunday league team that can pick a pass better than you can!
Are you upset that we didn’t sign you when Harry Redknapp was in charge, because everyone in world football knows the minute ‘Arry was out the door and someone not set in the stone age of football management was brought in, you rightly wouldn’t have gotten near our first team.

Whatever the reason, you rightly deserved the reception you got at White Hart Lane last week, and I hope you look forward to more thoroughly deserved abuse from the Spurs crowd next season, providing your joke of a team with its nine centre-half formation doesn’t get relegated this year.
In the mean time, we’ll do our best to get by without Paulinho; maybe a few of our promising youngsters (who could show you a thing or two about playing in midfield) will be given a chance.
I will never wish injury on any player, but it’s probably inevitable that one day someone will get their own back on you Charlie. When that day comes, I wouldn’t expect many get well soon cards.

It’s not the lack of skills that we hate, it’s the cowardly attempts to break our players legs when they get the better of him, See Bale x2, Paulinho recently and I think there was another too, Scotty Parker maybe.
The guys should have been red carded for EACH, no question, foot raised studs showing to the ankle, red card all day long, but yet somehow this scum bag gets away with it then complains if someone tackles him SLIGHTLY hard!

You have spent so much money for very little reward and even have the money to get rid of a manager who has the 2nd best win percentage and was still in all competitions…that’s a joke. Charlie might be a thug. More likely a combination of slow, incompetent and stupid. He can’t really tackle, he’s really slow. slow feet and a slow mind. You Southern numpties need to appreciate that football is a game played by men. Like the other ponces from North London, Spurs are being a little over sensitive and precious about their players. Tackling is part of the game and on occasion, players get it wrong and unfortunately injuries occur. The comments regarding Stoke being a long ball team are simply absurd. This has been the case for previous seasons but no money. Get a grip ladies and good luck for the rest of the season.

It was a bad tackle and all bad tackles should be punished. As a regular ‘watcher’ of Adam I can tell you he has poor technique when tackling and he lacks pace – a dangerous combination when tackling in the modern game.
There were far worse tackles in the game from both sides that luckily didn’t cause injury. No tackles were punished.
I can understand the opinion that Spurs fans hold of Adam because of the frequency that it seems to happen against them but ‘open letters’ like this are very short sighted, bitter and very twisted. I’m sure that letters like this don’t extend to all Spurs fans.
There is a very fine line between taming tackles and sterilising the game and once the game is sterilised there is no way back. I’m not sure people will enjoy a game of football that is totally non-contact, and that is the way it is going if we’re not careful. The game nowadays is so quick.
There is no middle ground.
