Stability Is The Key To Success

Stability not knee jerking is the first thing we need according to forum poster durbanspur

First and foremost before we attempt to remedy Spurs, the single biggest thing our club needs is stability. The longest standing manager since 1990 is Harry Redknapp with four years at the helm, which also coincides with the best football we have seen recently at the Lane. Then when things went sour we fired him just like every other manger that has had a wobble.

avb_1546598aBy contrast Arsenal and Man United have stuck to their guns with their managers. Sir Alex Ferguson had a terrible first few years managing United. However, the board stuck with him because they believed what they saw behind the scenes even though a major spend on players resulted in a massive drop in league standing.

When the fans were baying for his blood the board simply ignored the fans and allowed him to build his great legacy, because they weren’t interested in the knee jerk reactions of the fans. A similar situation with can be seen with Arsene Wenger and the scum.

How many times have the fans being baying for Wenger’s blood?

Did the board fire him because the fickle fans demanded it?

Has it helped the club in the long run? Of course it has.

There has been no major squad upheaval with regards to the change in manager or a horde of new players being brought in. Once the team got to know each other they played decently and in many cases like champions.

I would say at some points along the way you could have had those teams winning games week after week without the need of their manger, purely because they had the stability of having played together for so long.

Chelsea, although somewhat of an exception to the rule, proved this when they fired AVB and miraculously the team came to life and won the Champions League in possibly their worst season in years.

Was it because of Roberto Di Matteo? Not a chance in hell.

The team had just been together for so long they went back to how they were used to playing together.

Currently we have a new manager in AVB and a very new and young team. Why on earth would we be so stupid to fire him without giving him at least a few seasons to create something?

You don’t have to like him or agree with his plans but at the very least give him some time. I hate the way he is doing some things currently, but I still feel he needs time at the helm even if it means missing Champions League this year and next year.

We spent the money from Gareth Bale wisely in my opinion. Very young talented players were brought in although they clearly have yet to click, which is probably no fault of their own.

[authquoteright text=”You don’t have to like AVB or agree with his plans but at the very least give him some time[/linequote]

Has AVB and his constant tinkering helped?

In many ways yes and in many ways no. But you can’t write off the team based on some dodgy results and even more dodgy chopping and changing. We will come right eventually.

Our team against City last weekend on paper was a team I was excited to watch. It was possibly the most attacking team AVB had assembled all season. Unfortunately it turned out badly.

So we got a thumping, it was our turn anyway. Two years ago the Scum were destroyed 8-2 by United, then United were defeated 6-1 at home to City. In 2009 it was Wigan’s turn when we thumped them 9-1. Every team has to take a thumping once in awhile.

The other issue is why all the hate for Lamela?

Just because he didn’t have a “and it’s Danny Rose on his Premier League debut” match people are hating him. The poor kid can’t even speak English yet, he needs more time. If by the end of next season he is still under performing (which he most definitely wont be) chalk it up to another “Bently” bad buy, but only then, not now. We wont be the first or last team to be let down by a record signing.

What is important now is that over the next few years the team gets some stability. We bring in minimal new players, and place our trust in the manager and his plan.

No team are turned into champions over night regardless of how much money is spent on supposedly great players. Look at Sunday’s opponents City, it took them four years to win the league after they won the “Sheikh Lotto”.

As the old cliché goes: Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Couldn’t agree with you more mate. I’m fed up of fickle fans jumping on the manager’ back as soon as we go on a bad run. The media are just as bad but a Levy is strong and I think he’ll stay long term.

What has AVB actually done in the PL apart from getting the sack from Chelsea and being fortunate enough to have had Bale to win him a load of matches last season?

I’m all for stability with the right man, but AVB is quickly being found out. Talk of giving him another 2 or 3 seasons is crazy. The next month should tell us all we need to know about whether he has what it takes or not. Will he continue with a system and tactics that are destined to fail, or is he smart enough to get back to basics and restore some much needed confidence in the club.

We had stability, we had a manager that finished 4/5/4. We chose instability by changing the manager one season and changing the team the next season. Now all you hear about is the two strikers we have will be sold, it’ chaos the manager doesn’.Have a clue.
We used to be fast and scare reams, now we are pedestrian, that’s what you get for employing a failed manager.

ideally yes i agree, but this guy is being found out by the world and his brother! We’re being outplayed by lower relegation fodder teams, where is his tactical knowhow, i will tell you, non existent! What happens with all your patience when we don’t qualify for the champs league again? Simple we will lose players such as vertongen, lloris, sandro & others as we have proved over and over again that as a club we cannot hold on to our best players if we can’t offer them top flight european football. Us fickle not proper fans as some of you put it can obviously see it while the idiots with rose tinted specs just want to bury their heads in the sand in the belief that one day in the distant future things will turn around.
What the rest of us can see is that we are running out of time,as we can see that if you are constantly loosing your best players you are consistently starting over and over again! That is the proper stability we need.

Absolutely spot on, all this “give him time” nonsense is going to cost us CL qualification and players will leave. It’s up to us to stand up, be brave and demand that AV no plan B goes somewhere else to carry on with his doomed project and tactics. Wake up Spurs fans before it is too late, this guy is killing us.

What’s this absolute obsession with the Champions League? Are we all really that influenced by the media? Answer me a few questions. Are we likely to win it? Are we all of a sudden going to sign Ibrahinovic or Ribbery if we qualify? Ah, but surely it will it mean that clubs will no longer come and steal our best players? NO, just looks at what happened year after year at Arsenal. So what the hell it all the obsession about? Once you accept you are not going to win a competition I really don’t see the fuss. We have just qualified for the knockout stages of the UEFA CUP, with maximum points and a game to spare. We have a very winnable game against he Hammers coming up in the League Cup. Win that and we are only one round away from Wembley. However all we hear is this SPURS IN CRISIS talk because we are 2 points off 4th place in the League??? That’s not top, that is 4th place… one place worse than 3rd… I’ll be sure to tell my grandkids about the glory days when we got 4th place??? How about we stop allowing the press to tell us how we feel, stop them putting unnecessary pressure on our club? They have clearly been waiting to get AVB since he left Arsenal. They have clearly been waiting for us to lose a game, as we had the audacity to spend some money on replacing Bale. Who by the way, they seemed to want us to lose, so badly that at one point I honestly thought they were on commission from Real Madrid. How about we take our club back from the idiots who only want us to fail.. COYS !

It’s ok folks, Fulham lost and Hull didn’t play so we are still 6 points clear of them both. Phew.

I would happily take going back to supporting middle of the table spurs like I grew up doing over all the “lets get 4th so we get champions league football” bullshit that our fans have turned into. Any silverware, even if its a shitty cup tournament is better than 4th in my opinion. The glory as you so rightly said is in winning, not coming 4th.

Whether you grew up in the the 1950s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s or 00s you watched entertaining football so, I agree, finishing middle of the table was irrelevant because the football came first. The problem with this clown of a “project mananger” we now have is that he has sacrificed all that for inverted wingers, negative tactics and indecision during games………..and we are still mid-table.

I don’t recall Harry needing much time to stabilise, as I recall he took over half way through the season, got use out of the relegation zone and got us CL the very next season…\

As much as I agree with your comments on the team needing time together I think AVB is having the same problems he had at Chelski in that he is loosing the trust of the players and doesn’t seem to have a plan B.

Don’t compares us to Arsenal and Man Utd. Both Wenger and Ferguson were in it for the long haul. Spurs is a project for AVB; he has no desire to remain here long term. Even if he got the team top 4 this season, he’d be gone over the summer, on to a shiny new project with a bigger European club. Why can’t you see that? He’s a career manager, like Mourinho. He wants an impressive CV. Redknapp would still be here had he not pissed off Levy so much. As for Wenger, when he gets some stick he simply responds by getting his team to perform, go on unbeaten runs, and get into the CL. He’s an excellent manager, and Arsenal play the type of football we WISH we did. Have for the longest time. And Ferguson’s record speaks for itself.
Levy is the puppet master. HIS knee-jerk reaction to dump Redknapp and install AVB was a mistake. AVB is not the right manager for this team. Look how the team fared last year whenever Bale was out, and look at the difference post Bale. AVB was “bailed” out last year by having a superstar win games out of nothing. At Porto he had a team of stars head and shoulders above the rest of the field. This year he has been found out. And I reiterate, he would have been gone at the end of this season anyway (his decision), regardless of where the team finished.

Mr Patten, will you please stop writing on this site! The reason? Well, after reading your comments I have absolutely nothing to add as you get it spot on every time. In all seriousness, it is refreshing that someone is prepared to stand up to all this “give AVB time” nonsense and the sooner we are rid of the “project manager” the better.
