The Fighting Cock podcast – In a nutshell

Disillusioned with the other available Tottenham Hotspur podcasts, The Fighting Cock was birthed from the desire to offer Spurs fans a slice of supporter ideology without the constraints of appeasing the mainstream. Mass appeal and advertising revenue was not our goal. We wanted to offer something a little leftfield to the norm and if people liked it, we’d keep on recording.

Our only preparation was to make sure we had none. We don’t turn up blind every week and record without a hint of a running order. What we mean is, we wanted to be as upfront about Spurs as possible. An organic, natural flow of conversation. Much like you’ll find at a pub before a match or in the stands. No agenda, no gimmicks. Just Tottenham, from the heart, and heartfelt.

It’s raw, it’s very loosely scripted and above all – it’s honest. Take four or five Tottenham fans from the Lane, sit ‘em in a room and get them chatting about the club they love. The no preparation thing worked. Blogger, animator, season ticket holders and even an American – all with one thing in common – the love for the shirt – but with differing opinions and passions on the game and Spurs.

A season on, off the back of 45 or so episodes, we have a community of forum dwellers, writers for our blog and have been active with both the Football Supporters Federation and organising support for the Spurs youth team (which included taking 250 fans to an FA Cup Youth game at Charlton). Rob White has guested, Gary Mabbutt interviewed and Micky Hazard pencilled in for a visit.

We are the cocky, childish, energetic and never afraid to be a controversial alternative to mainstream football podcasts… if you love terrace banter. We are The Fighting Cock. We love the shirt.
